Thursday 20th September: Only the crazy ones

20/09/20184

The few of us crazy enough to be outside in this weather are huddled under the awning trying to get as close as possible to the wall without being impaled by a hook or drowned in the huge puddle. I wonder why smart folks who design things didn’t design a drain under the hooks.  Still we had three newbies. Two Texans and a local who has looked at the swim for years and decided today was the day – he made the  lovely Texan seem less crazy. I was thinking, ‘Why after watching the swim for the last few weeks in perfect weather would you choose today as your first? Its like being offered free meals at Hugos for a week then deciding on a KFC snack box.

So when you are rain wet you may as well be ocean wet too. Although technically we swim in a Bay not an ocean but your blogger is rarely accused of being overtly technical. So we walk in slowly through a bumpy little swell. Then we see Roz coming out from an early swim claiming there is an Eagle Ray off the point. And sure enough, about 10 metres around the point and over those long finger like rocks there he is,  and in all the greyness and rain, he adds a little ray of sunshine.

We didn’t need many photos to get the whole gang today. Here we are huddled under the awning….even the tall person in the middle with no head…and some Drinksy beef (but wait there’s more beef later in the blog so stay tuned…)

Members of the A team were warming up before the big chill…there’s seems to be less A teamers when its wet, your blogger thinks those A teamers should harden up…

Post birthday fireman Kenny and the pre-Drinks express resorted to cuddles to stay warm…looks like a great plan to me…

Meanwhile, as a special request from the female swimmers who ask ‘Where is the beef?’ Well ladies here is the beef…if the blog had a centrefold this would be it…

I luv this gang, even in the cold and rain its always worth coming down…
