Another beautiful day in our little patch of paradise

22/09/20186

This was theย  scene from the shoreline this morning. The unedited and edited versions

I just managed to catch the Drinks Express starting their swim

Meanwhile up on the path it was all going on.

Water temps are on the increase. Ian from Management asked me to remind those who have earned winter badges to come and claim them

It’s a tough gig, this management caper

The legendary Women of the Wall

Some of us got behind this banner. The message as well. We all love the marine life of Cabbage Tree Bay. Not only is it fun to look at and swim among, but the place is also contributing to a healthy ocean, a vital part of planetary ecology.

The FOBs – Folk of the Bench

I have no idea how many swimmers showed up today, nor newbies, but it seems like quite a few.ย  Otherย  stats of note – no stingers and no salps, how good is that?

Lost of happy swimmers this morning

The fine art of blog tarting

The elbow

At Shelley I had a grand idea of picking a theme for today but forgot to take any photos of the people I asked. Alison and Amanda mentioned swimming, family and the environment. Suzette echoed the sentiment but also said she thought a meaningful life was important. The 2 A teamers I asked nominated winning and the BBQ. I did manage to get a photo of Caroline who also said relationships and family were important to her as well as swimming in our precious protected Bay – the common denominator for all of us.

Was this the barbecue the A team were talking about?

Following the failed attempt at a theme I decided I may as well let the images do the talking.

Hailing the drone

The banner made a return appearance in the water.

Making a statement

Did I hear someone say fish? For a while I didn’t see much of the sexy stuff, but there was a profusion of smaller fish. Keep up the good work of chewing through those stingers and salps – much appreciated.

And some of the Port Jackson sharks who make CTB their breeding ground over winter

On the way back I saw Peter Barfod looking intently at something so despite having been in the water for a while and starting to feel the cold I just had to have a look. Very glad I did.

How lovely is this Eagle ray! Peter thinks she may be pregnant – how exciting.

Here’s Peter

And this lovely eastern shovel nose stingaree who is also about to join the mothers club

The next 4 photos are Peter’s – the first 3 of the same rays, the last of a frillgobie he saw in a rock pool near the halfway steps

Winter Badges

Missed the badge ceremony on Sunday?? Never fear, you can buy your winter badges at the desk any day for the usual price of $10 per badge.

Monthly Dinner โ€“ 9thย October – With our own Radio Show Hostess..

The next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held onย Tuesdayย 9th October at 6.30 pmย at Bluewater Restaurant, and will feature a very different format than normal.ย Our guest on the night will be one of our swimmers, Karen Sander, who is the creator of the radio program Ageing Fearlessly. Karen will host a Parkinson style show where she will interview three guests. The identity of the guests is being kept under wraps and will only be revealed at the dinner. The one thing that she will let you know is the guests fall into the following categories:

  1. A household name
  2. A mystery guest
  3. A Bold and Beautiful Immortal

Please book early for this event as it is sure to be popular. The cost of the dinner is great value at onlyย $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited,ย so bookings are essential:ย ย To avoid disappointment and secure your spot pleaseย bookย HERE.

What am I listening to?

Well, Internal Talk Like A Pirate Day came and went with nary a snifter of rum from the B&B. But I have been listening to 2 fabulous compilations –ย ย Rogues Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chanteys andย ย Son Of Rogues Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chanteys.ย  Both well worth a listen with artists like Baby Gramps, Iggy Pop, Shane MacGowan,ย  Tom Waits, Marianne Faithfull, Kate McGarrigle, Rufus Wainwrigt to name but a few. The first album contains a song about a very notorious Good Ship but as this is a family friendly blog I’ll leave it for you to find it.

This is Wild Goose by Broken Social Scene from the Son of compliation

And the same song but with a different name, given a very very different treatment by Steeleye Span (I love the completely unrelated photography in the video clip)

While writing this blog post, Youtube has taken me on a wonderful musical journey.

Just one more

Have a fabulous rest of the weekend
