Happy Nippy Monday crew – Today was a little reminder of what the upcoming months will be bringing
I’ve recently finished ‘Why we swim’ by Bonnie Tsui and will try squeeze in a few insights, over the next few weeks, in the form of some great excerpts about why we do what we do every morning – come rain, shine or…bluebottles.
“When we peer into a lake, river, or ocean, we find that water encourages a particular kind of reverie. Perhaps its depths can enhance our consciousness even if, instead of just looking, we get in and swim. We jump into that water and find ourselves in a curious liminal space. Here we are, suspended, yet moving; floating, yet ever in danger of sinking. And if we swim with the current, instead of fighting against it, we find a momentary state, one of motion and yet paradoxical still that is flow”
“Flow is what groundbreaking Hungarian psychologist Mihaly Czikszentmihalyi explains as ‘the sate in which people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter’.
I think we can all relate to above in some way or another and can even recall strong moments of being in the ‘flow’ to a point when time just falls away and we inexplicably find ourselves already walking up the sands to grab that coffee.
If you haven’t read ‘Why we swim’ yet I highly recommend it. Spoiler: there’s even a nice mention about the Bold and Beautiful 🙂
Have a great week all
