In 10 years of swimming with the B&B… today was particularly quiet and uninviting down in our little corner. The wind was howling, surf raging and it was raining! With all the flood water, parts were rather brown but we convinced ourselves that was from soil rather than the other stuff! I just had a dip outside the Surf Club with Jo and Penny but a few went all the way.
It was dark too when Ted arrived with Freddie in a homemade raincoat. Kara reported that Murray, Shane, Capless Dave and Jon had headed out at 6.30am
Caroline was the first person I saw who’d ventured in and she was happy she did!
Dave always swims from the beach. His famous saying is “I’d rather die than go from halfway!” Apparently once he got a blow to the head from a piece of wood and needed a few stitches but didn’t let that deter him. Here he is with Scotty and James.
Swimmers reported it was easier getting out than yesterday or Sunday, Sunday being the worst day.
Ted and Donald opted for halfway which was also wild with debris, branches and bamboo in the water but came out unscathed and happier having had their vitamin sea.
Jo goes in whatever the weather and opted for going from Shelly. Here she is on the way to swim…
and after her swim. Notice how ‘more alive’ she looks!
James, Scotty and Dave at Shelly. On the Facebook Viz page someone posted a photo of a brown colour describing the visibility at Cabbage Tree Bay to which someone responded ‘it looks like Mars’. Our very own Anne Henshaw was quick to reply ‘more like Uranus’. Gave me a chuckle!
I saw Alan back at the Surf Club post swim and he also went all the way and described it as ‘beautiful’!
Greg is another guy who’s been swimming every day throughout the wild and wooly weather.
and so has Michael aka Sparkie, a lovely guy and is my ‘Catch of the Day’!
Sandbags at The Bower Cafe
It will be interesting to see if any of us who’ve swum through this get sick… but usually we don’t… I’m sure a few would have swam later or in the Harbour. Daily attendance also says John Forster, Shelley,Bernard, Guy, Huw and Sue Marinan swam. Well done guys! We know the risks and what we’re capable of, and weighing up the risks if it’s worth a swim or not. It always is (in my opinion).
A few shark photos taken last Thursday.
Stay safe and hopefully tomorrow will be a beautiful day as they are predicting!
