Back yourself but know your limits

26/08/20250

Appearances can be deceiving. The surf today was very strong, with several people opting to dip, me included. Even this had its challenges. I went in at the Wentworth Street steps and was swept to the ramp in less than a minute. The current then turned parallel to the walkway and rushed out to the Point. Definitely a day for being very familiar with your strength and fitness limits and how you are feeling at the time, as well as the confidence and self knowledge to back yourself. Oh, and also understanding how rips work – this helps to prevent panic. You will not be swept to New Zealand or South America. The forecast for tomorrow indicates similar conditions, but who knows what tests Mother Ocean is preparing for us.

Look on the bright side! Much less seaweed today than yesterday.

I’m very disturbed about this, how about you? For the last years that I can remember we have had a few cold (for us) days at this time of the year. The forecast for Thursday (which is 2 days away) is for colder air temps. I wonder what the ocean tempertures will be like.
