Today, people, we have a special treat.
A look into the insanity that is the 4.5km Boldershelley – a lap to the headland at Queenscliff and back, before 7am, and then on to Shelley and back… for a 4.5km tick!
A really good way to train for the upcoming 6k and 10k marathons.
You won’t see the show ponies of the A-Team here – this is real swimming!
5:50 start..
A good approach is to break up the swim into stages… this is your halfway point (roughly)
The NSSLSC – about 2/3 – most of the hard work is done…
Somewhere near the finish line – today we had 17 participants
We ran into one of the main groups on the way back … powering along and looking serious 😉
The special guest stars of the day were these two massive black swans – they had the whole beach buzzing…
We named them “David” and “Julie”…..
after the Bolderdash it’s over to Shelley for a bit of clowning around…
Good to see Annie back!
Brenton started off camera shy
…and then loosened up
This is Miselle, Kalle and Ari… they are from Finland.
Tomorrow, after the flight home, Kalle will be at his summe house swimming in 4c water
Nice tans boys!
This is Gary – the Grouper…
This is Heather – another type of groper.
Some bullseyes
Beautiful large sea snail – Jane?
How to milk a Wobbegong – place the fangs against the side of a rock with the head backand tilted upward.
Press forward on the head until the venom from the fangs runs down the rock and collects in the jar underneath.
A cute baby flathead – awwwwww
Finally ran into the blind shark this week!
…and a catfish…
Have a great weekend! Nick D

I just love all the speculation flying around about who the “special guest” is on Tuesday night!
(hint: It’s not Dave Panton or Julie Bishop)

Great Blog Nick!
Annie and Brenton Back!! woot woot!
Congratulations to Lee, LizX for their first bolder.
and Jo for number 2.
It was a perfect bolderdash morning.
It was such a change seeing swans in the swim.
Perhaps the professor can clarify if they really are dangerous?
The Dr was talking about how savage these birds can be in an ocean environment. But only if you are one of the last swimmers!
I can not believe how fast Lippy and The Boss (Triad Queen) are these days. Credit to you both.
Don’t forget – Rock Star theme for Sharnie’s tonight. (Or is that just what they are telling me?)

Hi Sharnie – I am no shell expert – I have sent the pics on to the relevant guys at the OzMus. Isn’t it gorgeous? and so big!

Sorry – the query is from Nick, not Sharnie – or maybe it doesn’t make any difference…….

Rainer is an expert on prediction of conditions for bolderdash. Please share again when conditions are like that! Outstanding photos and blog

Thanks Elizabeth. Will do.
Great blog Nick. About time someone dedicated a blog to the Boldershelly, or B’elly as I like to call her.
The most beautiful of the regular daily swims. To enjoy her full beauty, consume on a calm morning with light south-westerly, starting at 5:50 to 6:00am with a bunch of similar-speeded friends.
Thanks everyone for sharing the B’elly with us this morning!

Enormous thanks to Rainer for guiding me out through the deeper ocean water and over to QC and to Sean for calmly guiding me home despite me repeatedly swimming in to him! Sorry again Sean. Am very chuffed to have achieved my first Bolderdash (just a vanilla, not a B’elly)thanks to the whole crew who swam and made me feel safer. Much appreciated

Hmm, hmmm….. I thought it was my call for today:-) Actually, a joint call.
Sorry to scare you when I cried out excitedly “swans” and with your ear-plugs in, you heard “sharks”!!
Yes, congratulations to first-time bolderdashers – seems so far out the first time, I remember….

Maybe someone else has slowed down?:) Maybe that someone will now be happy to swim by my side for the 10k (or his 7K version of the 10K!)

Are you proposing a new Belly swim category?

Sarah someone closer to me actually said sharks, they said there were two sharks that you had seen when I asked what it was you had seen hence my concern which thankfully was unfounded
