4/8/13 St Sithney Day

04/08/201317

Yes today is celebrated for St Sithney, the patron saint of mad dogs! While mad dogs and englishmen go out in the midday sun, us Bold & Beautiful prefer the 7am Winter sunrise – accompanied by our own mad dogs, Tui, Turbo, Billy Boy, Winston, Layla, Coco and Baci to name a few!

Another stunner this morning for 187 Bold & Beautiful with an air temp of only11C and an even chillier 8C ith the Westerly wind chill factor. Fortunately the water was relatively balmy 17.6 although the chill factor had crept in as we approached Shelly.

Mad dogs and englishman……

Lots of fish despite the cloudy viz, even some Port Jacksons..which always make me think of dogs for some reason.

A little bit of bit of August history, originally known as Sextillis it became August in 8BC in honour of Augustus who chose this month because it was the time of many of his triumphs – just like the B&B winter swimmers triumphing with their winter badges, some without a wetsuit and some even achieving new highs in conquering some challenging waves recently!
Laura and Jasine were out there again with Dad…

They’ve written an amazing story about swimming with their Dad and the B&B, you can read it here, https://www.dropbox.com/s/nfq1g8v5pspxyus/LauraJasmine.pdf

The Westerly had some great waves standing up as we approached the beach. The body surfers were having fun but struggled to keep their pink caps on…

Another great Sunday swim.
And to finish the mad dogs and englishman theme, here’s the queue for a COLD shower after a winter swim – thank goodness there isn’t hot water..

A quick update from yesterday when you may remember Lesley’s slightly unkempt look after her birthday bash the night before, in case you don’t here it is.

Shaun, as diligent as ever, collaborated with landscape architect Storchy to bring their skills to bare.

Robbie will reveal the outcome in tomorrow’s Monday blog!
Meanwhile last night Lesbutt’s birthday was being celebrated in style at the Steyne..

Happy Birthday again!

    Hi guys,
I don’t think I have paid for the ball. It is Tim and Victoria Giovanelli. Who should I get in touch with?

Thank you Laura and Jasmine for a great essay. I especially like the bit about paddling under the rainbow. Can you bring a Teddy down for me so I don’t need to take yours?
    Regarding the bolt cutters;
A fellow swimmer asked me to bring down my “builders key” to liberate his push bike from the chain after loosing the key. (I hope it was his bike)

Great blog, as usual but I love the story by the girls. Well done Laura and Jasmine!
Baby Stephanie likes a story I the afternoon, and I read her your story today. She loved it and will hopefully join you at B and B when she’s a few years older after being inspired by your wonderful tale!

Great blog but Laura and Jas stole your thunder today SC. Love their story! Think The Manly Daily should do a story on them. Shady Shaun aka Dolphin Whisperer now has a new nickname, ‘Teddy Grabber’ hee hee!

Thanks Elaine, I thought it was a bit of a coup. I’ve been planning it for a while. I think we can get a lot of content from children at much lower cost plus it appeals to the masses. I thought they were punching above their weight for 7 year olds and possibly the Monday and Thursday bloggers are under the pump now!

Thanks Elaine, I thought it was quite a coup securing their exclusive rights for Sunday blogs. It’s been under negotiation for quite some time. They write at a level that appeals to most B&B – really punch above their weight for 7 year olds. ;-). I think the monday and Thursday bloggers might be under the pump!

You’re welcome Stephen! The girls will confirm we’ve been negotiating for quite sometime now. You have my bank a/c details.
The question will be whether Laura & Jazz are faster than Lips and I when they do their first swim to Shelly without their boards. My bet is on the girls!
(Mark, having trouble opening the link in HK – will call in a Triad hacker for assistance!)

Shameless blogtarting in the photo above the unfortunate foliage image – where Ian and others have obviously not let me know there was a lens about and all they got was the image of my back
All I ever wanted was to be in the blog – but not anonymously !!
