OK It’s a LONG blog with lots of photos. I pity those who view this on their phone. Your bandwith is dead.
In
April 1789, a catastrophic chicken pox epidemic spread through Sydney
and surrounding areas with the result that local Aborigines died in
their thousands, and bodies could often be seen bobbing in the water in
Sydney Harbour.
Today
several locals suffering from an epidemic of swimming madness were also
seen bobbing around in the harbour but this time thankfully pox
was not the cause. they were driven by a need to swim in turbid water.
(* the above fact is actually true you know)
An Ashburner depature
It
was the Cole Classic today. Another harbour swim for the B&B is
another day I don’t get in the water.( I’m a harbourphobic.) I blog more
than I swim these days.
B&B is 1500 today!
Stephen Coulter informed me that it is the 1500th consecutive B&B swim since its inception!
NEWSFLASH

Channel 9 will be filming at Shelly Beach on Monday Morning
(This is not a Hoax – Honest, please turn up and be on TV)
They want as many B&B at Shelly by 7.12am
We
must leave the club early at 6:45 am to be sure to be there ontime – so
set your alarm clocks early! ( Some people will still swim as usual at
7am but they will miss the opportunity to be famous)
Not a great turnout today:
Another cold wettish English looking Sunday morning.
The crowd of swimmers was small but hardcore. As usual on days like this it was out from Manly wharf along past the Skiffie and then onto the toilet rolls and back. It was grey/brown, choppy and looked cold.
(am i selling it tp you?).
Heres a selection of photos from today, some mine some from the steady hand of Stephen Coulter.

Ian was inspecting all the Newbies costumes to make sure they passed muster. Well done Ian, keep up the good work.

Lori, Anna, Jenny, Sarah and Attracta sneeking off for a pre swim smoko.
Naughty naughy girls.

Here’s one for the ladies! Rainer strutting his stuff. Looking buff mate.
( This has to be your new Facebook profile pic)

Maybe we should hang one of these signs up outside the surfclub, what do you think?
I know Manly Council love a bit of signage.

As it was a Harbour swim today i thought i’d slip in a frew Here’s Sydney Harbour facts for you…
- The harbour is approximately 55 km²
- It
is estimated/recorded that almost 600 species of fish (live/or pop in
for a visit) in Sydney Harbour. Big fish, little fish and nasty fish we
don’t talk about. - Parts of the harbour can be as deep as 45 metres but in most places its only a fraction of that.
Stay safe:

Heehee love the photo of Rainer!! Even without trying he gets into the blog!
Ok so seeing as Timster didn’t even swim with us… The swim in the harbour really was for the brave.. Zero viz, murky, scary… But didn’t smell bad and not much rubbish…There was a head wind all the way there…and was choppy! Glad it’s over but still..you never regret a swim

Team Aidan completed the Cole Classic in almost perfect conditions today. Thank you to everyone who supported them on land and in the water. P.S. I saw Shaun at Shelley today waiting for everyone else to catch up to him.

Beautiful last swim for my brother today. Very little rain and the southerly gusts made the harbour just choppy enough to distract from the large amount of sewage in the water.
Tim, great blog. Well done on getting that old photo of me. I think it was taken almost 4 years ago. Straight after my arrival in Australia.
Great to have Little Sarah and Jon back! See you for some quality TV tarting tomorrow!

Love the blog Tim.I remember that sign from my local swimming pool, Burntwood Baths. I always wondered what ‘petting’ was! Great photo of The Spice Girls smoking and that one of Rainer is brilliant!

Great fun to be back in the harbour – obstacle course, dodgems, roughish waters, grand reunion on return with Lips & his bro, followed by lovely super-windy changing conditions under the tree (was glad all the cameras had long given up waiting for the herders):-)
Great job Timster! Amazing what you can do without getting your toes wet:-))
Let’s have a super turn-out tomorrow for the super-blog tarting opportunity. 6.45 for regulars and a tad earlier for super-slowies and their herders!

Thank you Lesley. I miss you when your not there too.
We should have a Cofee some time. 😉
Great to see your helping us out with the integrity audit.
As mentioned in yesterday’s blog, the return of the Triad queen quickly resulted in the omission of my 1.5 km swim yesterday from the stats. I had a word to the double agent Simon who ticked today instead to keep the integrity of the PC.
Great to see the auditors out.
Congrats to all the cole classic competitors today.
Tough Ocean Swim. They all did well.

He was late with his payment – next time I’ll suggest to Dear Leader Simon that he have points deducted.
Reminds me -his “Inegrity” partner still owes us big-time for all the surfing mileage we’ve awarded him recently!!
Jacko & all CC stars – let us know how you got on! Jacko, I decided not to enter your age category to give you guys a chance:-)

Being a honorary member of the Integrity Police (Sea-Sergeant-Jacko) I made sure every cc star swam around every buoy (even the one that drifted to North Steyne in the 2 k)… HOWEVER… A certain other sea-sergeant began to struggle… And I unfortunately could not complete the race as I had to rescue him… 🙁
