31/10/13 – Halloween Swim…

31/10/201312

131 swimmers this morning…It’s Halloween…guess what was sighted in our favourite corner of the world this week?…

This shot was taken  at Shelly Beach, about 10 m from shore, up the Fairy Bower end. The positive thing is that as John Turnbull the photographer puts it ‘this is a sign that this small no-take reserve continues to recover.’

Please don’t let this put anyone swimming with us! These sharks are the ‘labradors of the sea’ so like our dusky whaler, port jackson and wobbegong friends are harmless when respected!

Thought I’d give you a scare for Halloween! The day started off moody, mystical and magical down in our special corner…It was cloudy everywhere else but as usual the sun squeezed it’s way through the clouds to light up our swim.

I counted 28 Drinks Expressers heading off at 6.30am.

6 newbies today including Mia, Kirsten and Max. Our Ian always makes them feel welcome.

Conditions are the best they’ve been all week as is usual for a Thursday 😉 Mike is noticing the water’s a bit chilly compared to where he’s been swimming in Oman.

Jenny, Anne and Jalna try a joy jump but need lessons from Jenny. (And Jalna’s foot is still geting better!)

A bit ‘spooky’ waiting at The Point…

Attracta the great fish spotter, saw a huge wobbegong hiding under a rock. I try to get a photo but my goggles are leaky today. The water is clearer though.

At Shelly I try and take everyone’s photo. Everyone likes to be on the blog! Not everyone is smiling today. Some have hangovers and the rest of us are just p***d off at not being invited to the party 😉

A quiet ‘Let’s Go’ today. Happy Birthday Heidi and Candy. Why didn’t you hve a birthday swim with us today?

Bec from Birmingham is pleased to have Mum, Dyliss over on holiday. There she is in the black watching on!(Yes there are a few of us ‘Brummies’ around enjoying this daily drama!)

Not that it’s a race or anything…but the first ones back are Scotty and Alex

followed by  Stirling and Dreamboat

Even Dr John looks a bit scary today…

Lesley is the winner in my books . Here she is with all the rubbish and plastic she collected, saving fishies (and mutton birds) lives.

By the way, Sparkles aka Michelle Sparkes is organising a ‘Clean Up Cabbage Tree Bay Swim’ when we all stuff our cossies with rubbish to stop it killing the beautiful marine life. The swimmer with the most rubbish wins a night at the gorgeous Whale Beach Bed and Breakfast! Date to be arranged.

B&B’s Annual Fundraising Dinner proudly supported & sponsored by The Steyne Hotel on Tuesday 12th November from 6.30pm is now sold out! If you would like to go on the wait list for tickets, please email Ian (ugoboy@optushome.com.au) or see Ian or Lesley at swimming any day. If you have booked tickets and are unable to go, please email Ian so we can on sell your tickets to someone on the wait list.

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly!  While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.  Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf.  To read, or even download, click here.

Bold and Beautiful Swim School

Sarah Anne Evans, B&B’s official Pacific Jules swim coach, has organised a group swim school at Shelley Beach for any willing B&B swimmers who want to improve their style. The cost is $30 and it’s limited to 15 people. During the 90 minute session Sarah Anne and Warren Evans will be covering how to swim with more efficiency, flow and speed! If the water is clear and calm enough they will film each person for feedback after the session via email.

The latest date available for the B&B Swim School is 21st December.

(This will be the last swim school for the year. More next year. Schools on 30 November and 14 December are both full)

If you would like to book in you should call or email Sarah Anne and you will be sent further information, including the date, time and payment details. Phone  0420 923 067  or email info@pacificjules.com.au

I hope you’ve been hoarding all that plastic rubbish then Lesbubb, so you can present it in a REALLY BIG pile for the competition!

Thanks for making Mya so welcome, she can’t believe we are all such good people ! Special mention to Greg for bringing down extra wetsuits in case Mya’s two French girlfriends joined us. She is coming back next couple of mornings so do say Hello.
