With a 2-3 foot 10 second direct southerly swell, you would have been excused for thinking you were in paradise today. With a 2 knot Westerly barely making it through the Manly skyscape, it was almost still. For those interested we are expecting a gradual increase to 4.5ft Southerly swell by the end of the week but it is unlikely to have any effect on our little corner as we are so protected from the effects of southerly swells.

As the sun slid slowly over the edge of the world we were blessed with near perfect conditions for an end of financial year special swim.

It was easy to spot those meditating on their evasive techniques to avoid Jellyfish and other bities.

Not needed as the 6:30 crew announced to all the early jaunt had been one to remember.

It says 18.3 but I reckon by the time we hit the first school of Whiting it was at least a degree warmer.

So with no excuses left , it was time to get more than mentally ready.

Some were having a harder time adjusting to the perfect conditions than others.

Others were blissfully aware of the circumstances.

And no sooner than I looked again they were gone.

In a flurry of bubbles.

Bringing up the rear, I barely got to the point and they were off.

A couple of late arrivals blistered past overhead.
The fish barely move anymore they are so used to the goings on.

Some passed by a little more peacefully, in cloudbursting mode.

And at the gathering, there was a lots of reflection on other places to be. or not

This old seadog was enormous at close to 70-80 cms and only a few feet from shore. Small children beware.

And our cuttlefish was not moving for anyone.

The journey back was filled with more of the wondrous same.

with the sun not sure about shining too hard to early.

Further out the greens give way to the blues.

And as we rounded the point , the sky put on a show

And everyone came out to play

Even the Whiting hung around long enough for a snap.
And then as fast as it had begun it was over and we trudged more than walked up the ramp.
I thought of Joni Mitchells song as we walked out and her lines “Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone”, but then i considered we are a lot luckier because we can just turn up and do it all over again tomorrow.
Have a great week.
Brian
Today we were all treated to a magic EOFY swim. It was a cracker for this time of year.
