30/12/2015 – One of Those Magical Swims…

30/12/20157

The sun shone down on around 400 of us bold swimmers this morning and the ocean sparkled with our splashes and the sun’s rays!It was pretty calm, a lot clearer than it has been and 20.2 degrees. A magical way to start the day!

Sunrise at 5.45am

We had loads of early swimmers today. Here are a few of the 6.30’s going in. There were also Bolderdashers and Bolderbastards (they are quicker!)

Debra on the left was one of our 35 newbies today!

there are lots of Wobbegongs in the bay! This one was just at The Point. Snorkles aka Sharon said she saw 10 diving yesterday!

Around at the flat rocks the Old Wives were back.

Love seeing rays of sunshine come through the water as you swim along!

Great to see Heather and Cam back swimming.

Lovely Jill who works hard behind the scenes logging new swimmers on to the system as well as greeting newbies with her friendly smile!

Paul Rainbow and friends

I have no idea why Richard and Marco have their tongues hanging out!

The lady on the left swam on her 50th birthday today but didn’t tell us so we couldn’t sing Happy Birthday. (Don’t be shy if you have a birthday or are celebrating something. You can call the ‘Let’s Go’!)

I’ve included loads of group shots today because there were lots of new or nearly new swimmers and it’s always great seeing yourself on the blog. It’s also great if we can read your comments on how you enjoyed the swim at the bottom of the blog so please comment! Wishing you all a very happy 2016. Make it your resolution to swim as often as you can. You won’t regret it!

Parking

B&B members do not have permission to park in any car spot or bay that belongs to the surf club. Please adhere to this rule. There is plenty of parking in the Council car park at no charge to you.

Summer Badges

There are now three badges available for those swimming in summer:

# 1: Saturday 5 December kicked off the 6 km summer badge swims. These are on every Saturday during summer.

# 2: There is one 10 km swim in December, February and March 2015/16. The first 10 km swim was on Saturday 12 December. Watch the blog for details of the second 10 km swim, to be held in February.

# 3: Our new badge, the Shelly Triple, involves a triple lap of Cabbage Tree Bay (i.e. swim to Shelly Beach and back to The Point three times – total 3.5 km). This swim can be completed any day and should be logged on the i-log system. Since this is designed for those who are unable (or unwilling) to do the longer swims, this badge is only available to those who haven’t completed a 6 km or 10 km swim during the season.

Really important with the big waves we’ve had recently! Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

My first swim was on 11 March 09. Back then we did not have the problems caused by the recording of total distance. What problems you ask. Well, currently Henrietta has forced me to swim my first two doubles in nearly 7 years. I am trying to think of a way to surreptitiously add some lead weights inside her fins. Any ideas?

That’s amazing Sir Wilf, almost 81 years of age and you are clocking up Doubles! The Pacific Challenge is a great way to motivate us to swim further and more often! We’ll have to think of a way of slowing Henrietta down for you Wilf.

I have been swimming for just over a year and seriously today was probably the best swimming day yet.
Perfect weather not a cloud in the sky, flat sea on the way to Shelley, crystal clear water and a small surf to get us back into the beach.

    Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone found three New Year’s Eve tickets on their bag this morning. They accidentally placed in the wrong pink bag.
    Cheers

Lovely blog and the first photo should be kept for next year’s calendar, Lainey Loo of lovely cosies. It’s a beauty. It really captures the Let’s Go! take off from Shelly.

PS Apologies for the inadvertent typo – not “cosies”, but cossies…!
