Enjoy a real summer’s morning swim and one day early too.

22.4 degree water temperature I can’t believe there are any wetsuits on… 😉

Simon’s lost his turbo charger

but the girls wouldn’t notice, they’re all too busy embracing the water on their skin

Lots of dusky mullets enjoying the company in the bay

There were lots of bluies on the beach but not one in the water, thank goodness
The non-toxic red algae has made it’s way to Manly though, at half way beach. Thanks for the photo Sharon

Lots of very content swimmers, happy they got up and made this most of this fantastic morning.
Susie couldn’t believe how nice it was without a wetsuit.

Neil from the UK, swam his first double this morning, just in time for his farewell swim with us tomorrow

Not much equipement is needed for swimming, but what you do have needs to be just right…

Another magical swim in paradise. It’s gonna be a top weekend !!

Sunrise are filming from Manly this morning and our gorgeous media tarts didn’t let us down.

They made it on TV, on the 8am news 🙂

9 swimmers also enjoyed the early Bolderdash

You guys are the best to be found anywhere so I know B&B will keep running as if we were just in Canberra for the weekend, just like this weekend 😉 Give it two weeks and you won’t even remember who we were 🙁 Lots of people have already come forward to say they can help. Thank you xx
Pacific Jules is going to keep running too thanks to Sarah Anne and Warren who are going to coach in my absence. They‘re both highly experienced coaches and for anyone needing stroke correction or confidence building you are in very safe hands.

What an exciting morning! Although I couldn’t swim today I was excited to see many familiar faces on the TV!

Very sad to see you both leave to the dark side of Australia, Michael and Julie! Luckily you have started an unstoppable people’s movement, and thanks to your dedication and now also delegation, the B&B will live forever.
Down the road of history, Manly-ites will be saying “Who started that pink cap swim?” and there will be people swearing it was someone called Michael with a bit of help from his lady friend whatsername.
EEEEEEEEElaine, great blog yesterday! xxxx

Bold and Beautiful Midsummer Night Swim 2012 can only be the original Manly to Shelly and return. And no, Jules, it’s YOUR swim. Always has been, always will be. You and Michael helped bring me from my first openwater event of 700m (where I thought I was going to die) in December 2011 to swimming 6km in Nov 2012, with jimbles sharks, rays, mullets, doll phones and whales along the way. I never imagined I would be doing that.

Loved getting BnB on TV today – had so many funny comments on FB!!!! Mark Berrats (spelling?) told us to wait whilst the news was on and then we were on and he mentioned the B & B swims IN THE SPORTS NEWS SECTION !!!! Fantastic publicity for our group!!!
Can’t believe that cute Robbie skipped off hand in hand with Iain to have breakfast and missed the opportunity of the year, I reckon double points for TV appearances!!
The LIPS!!!! I cant believe you missed out I AM GUTTED for you !!!! Mind you, if you were there it would only have been a TV screen full of your LIPS and nothing else, none of the media tarts would have got in!!!

How on earth did I miss this opportunity!!!
Just goes to show.. every time you don’t swim there are bound to be whale encounters, dancing dolphins, or TV opportunities.
Snorkles, what’s with the credit card hanging out of your bra? Did you go on air like that?? 🙂
Rob, what on earth is with the wetsuit in 22.4 degree water??? Is that an ironman thing?

I am impressed.
You have stepped up to the plate. Not only photo bomb as many in the swim as possible, you swam out to the algae and had someone take the photo for you, send it in and then turned your attention to the TV.
I bow down to the queen of blog tarting.
Lips, not only is she the Queen but Snorks also controls the blog tart spread sheet.
(Just in case)
I believe, we swim in the presence of greatness.

All I know is that i have been called “Cute Robbie” for the second time.
FYI – That pic of me in front of the “red algae” is actually blood. I got attacked by two great whites but fought them off…..
IRONMAN!

Did you notice that the Lips didnt take part in the TV appearnce.
BTW – a policeman whispered ‘did you see the whale?’ to me whilst I was hanging with the other minor celebs.

It is tough being the Queen, although we have to remember I am miniQueen status compared to our Jules!!
Scores on the doors this week are:
Corinne 18 Will come min with EOY splashes
Jules 23 Heading upwards noicely
Nige 25 Bit lame – strong start in the Winter – obviously doesnt like the warm water
Shaz 85 QUEEN!!!!!
Iain 53 Rising rapidly with more random shots than even trying (maybe this guy is smart??)
Rob 36 Worthy effort, distance can drag this competitor down
Emer 12 Tough going with the W O R K thing interferring
Rainer 57 A fresh feisty number with a middle name of Creativity

Oh Snorkles, Queen Blog Tart, you have to be a blogger you are so funny and have such a way with words… (but you wouldn’t be able to point the camera at yourself all the time!!!;)
Another great swim but the water wasn’t clear like yesterday.(Thank you, thank you for giving me fish appearances for my blog!) Can’t decide whether to do the 3 Points Challenge tomorrow or 6 km swim. Who is up for either?

haha Cute Robbie is now your ‘handle’! I did see you struggling with those 2 “sharks” (seaweed).. I left you to it though coz you being an Iron Man and all!!
But seriously folks – I swam straight through that algae patch – and there was also a massive swarm of blubbers – I actually started to get kinda scared!! BUT I figured blubbers would be good for my skin and the algae good for general health! (free spirulina?)
AWESOME swim – there should be ZERO wetsuits out there now!!!!!!!!!!
DIDN’t see any of you Media Tarts on TV Sunrise though!?!

Fingers crossed for no blue bottles tomorrow! What’s the 10k route tomorrow? Is that the one on the map (South Steyne – Shelly – South Curl Curl – Shelly – South Steyne)?
Inez
30/11/2012 at 1:12 pm
Elaine, I will be at 3 points tomorrow. 6km will be on all summer long. Unless you are leaving the following day for New Zealand, that is. Or Perth. Or the UK. Or Uzbekistan.

Hey Francois, Thats the plan but I will swing past Curly in the morning to check to conditions. If its not perfect, we are swapping to a double lap of Freshie to Manly after the normal Shelley Swim.
We will make a decision in the morning.
François Pradel
30/11/2012 at 1:30 pm
Thanks Shaun. If that’s the case, is there a way we could still finish with a Shelly to South Steyne? I am trying to motivate a few friends to swim the final lap with us from Shelly 😉
By the way, whatever option we choose, what time do you reckon we would hit Shelly before the last lap to South Steyne? Around 10am?

I suggest we all leave the wetsuits on right through Summer. They act as a fantastic floataion device, it is such a long swim wetsuit free…

Thanks John S. And although swimming is a non talking sport, it’s very harmonious swimming beside another being at the same speed. Pure magic!

I think you missed me Snorks, suspect some strong points from 3 TV appearances including one interview and global appearances!

The conditions are going to play a big part in the timing. Tiger has told me that 930am is the normal time for leaving south Curly so I’m guessing some time between 11 – 11.30 to leave Shelley and regarding a double Freshy – yes I’m all for a Shelley to Manly finish. Ill check with the boss’s regarding the Double Freshy distances so we can do a final Shelly.
Keep in Mind, I still think Ill be cramping out at 6K. I have not swam over 4.5 K before so its all new to me. haha

30/11/2012 at 3:42 pm
Plan A – 10K coarse to South Curly
Plan B – Shelley – 1.5K Freshy 4.5K Bolder 3K Shelley 1.5K ?????
What do you think swimmers?

The blue bottles are swarming in with the nor’ easter blowing. I did a Manly – Shelly swim at lunch time and picked up a nasty sting. Stephen, wished you were there with your magic cream.

Hmm.. tempting.. I took mine off on Thursday and almost drowned. Such hard work without it!!
Should we petition for a ‘summer in wetsuit’ badge?
Quite an achievement if you think of all the teasing and mockery one has to endure from one’s fellow swimmers! 🙂

I think the 10km swim usually arrives @ Sth Curly around 8.50am with a rest stop of about 15-20mins. I’m bringing drinking water, snakes, gatorade & sunscreen.
Will catch up with swimmers before the 7am start.

Yes I’m for a ‘Summer in Wetsuit’ badge. I’m going to start wearing mine soon and drop the fins as Triathlon practise! Infact that’s what we say if anyone teases us. We have to practise in what they allow in Ironman events. You’d like that eh Robbie?
E-lane
30/11/2012 at 6:27 pm
Inez, I am in awe of you! You are so gutsy and brave. See you on Curl Curl beach at 8.50am and we’ll do The 3 points Challenge. We could hand out lollies to the 10 km swimmers too as they will be reaching there about then. Little Tiger will be there too.
Anyone else wanting to do it you can still register tomorrow. It doesn’t start until 10.15am. Good luck 6 and 10kmers tomorrow!

30/11/2012 at 6:35 pm
Yes great idea! I started wearing a wetsuit in Summer last year as prep for the Husky Triathlon as you are allowed them. Then we wouldn’t get teased. Ironman Robbie would be up for that!

Plan C re 10km swim is for a harbor adventure swim. We will decide in am. Can 10km folk get there 0650?
Bluebottles not going to get us there and it is nice and clean.
Cheers

Yes and those worried about limited parking at curl curl can just swim there from Manly in time to start 3 points. Easy.

I’d like to thank all of you for being so freindly, welcoming and supportive while I have had the privilege of swimming with you over the past 4 weeks. I have learnt a lot about open sea swimming and been forced to improve my stroke to cope with the conditions. All the best to you all. If you are ever in the UK look out our Outdoor Swimming Society Thames group – any of you will be most welcome to join us. Regards Neil R.
