3-02-21: Vale Captain Tom: 1920-2021

February 3, 20212

Woke to sad news this morning – WWII vet, Captain Sir Tom Moore passed away from coronavirus. He aimed to raise 1,000 pounds for NHS charities before his 100th birthday during the first lockdown in England by walking laps of his garden but ended up raising AUS$60million! His daughter said he had the best year of his life. 🙏

To honour Captain Tom, Cabbage Tree Bay put on a fantastic display of brilliant flat, almost crystal clear, seaweed and bluey free, warm 21.4 deg water. A big change from yesterday. RIP Captain Tom. In the top photo Sandy, Fi and Fi were remembering Tom before diving into the beautiful ocean.

The Storchometer and booty campers were nervous about being in the swimmers blog but I assured them that variety is the spice of life!

These early birds had swum, coffee-ed and were off to work before posing for a quick blog photo!

Lauren and Diana were getting the low down on fish life and clarity from Management Ian!

The water was so calm today I was able to swim right up to the rocks between the shed and the point and take photos of these dogs taking it in turns to retrieve their toys – getting in some great daily exercise!

Fi and Sandy were solving the problems of the world i.e. what should the theme of today’s blog be! They were an awesome help and we agreed on ‘Vale Captain Tom’ but Sandy also came up with the following gem (we need to get them both on the blogging team):

Schools are back and schools of fish are everywhere! Very fitting!

The ‘Old Wives’ would have to be one of my favourite fish. They are so graceful and mesmerising to watch.

The little puffer was trying hard to keep up with the ‘Old Wives’ but not too successfully.

This is a blind shark before he darted beneath some seaweed. We didn’t see the grey nurse but apparently he was out there today.

Many swimmers coming and going on this magnificent day at Cabbage Tree Bay!

Johnny and Belinda were thinking of doing a double this morning but the call of freshly brewed tea was too great so they settled for a single!

Have you met this superhero? He had a freshly washed cape and was warming Lainey up as she contemplated ducking home for a hot shower before coming back and swimming another lap of the bay.

Post exercise euphoria!

Chris has enjoyed his summer holiday in Manly but is heading back home up north on Monday. See you next holidays Chris!

All hatted up! Good to keep those skin cancers at bay!

Freestylin’!! Just remember which way is up!

Have a great week!

Lucy
