29/9/13 – You Came From Where??

29/09/201315

Another beautiful Sunday –

The Sun was up at 5:37am – Just about the time Sharon (the usual Sunday blogger) was getting home from the Boatshed..

Not a cloud in the sky…

There’s a little more activity in the mornings now as Manly gears up for bigger days on the beach – the Summer beach season is coming and it’s nice to have a bit of a buzz in the air.

It’s been a great Winter and we’re all really looking forward to Summer.

This morning I spoke to a lot of people who travel from all sorts of places to join us on our Sunday swims – just awesome!

Hedley and Fiona are up from Melbourne where they swim  in 8c water without wetsuits! See – it’s NOT COLD up here!

The ladies from Penrith – who jump in the car about 5:15 to get here in time!

Teh Beng Eu from Malaysia – had his Mum and Sis here as well – Welcome mate!

These guys just wanted to be in the action ….

Dipak – also a traveller – can you guess where he’s from?

(That’s right – Epping!)

Hallo mate – Hope you had a great swim!

Sam and Tom

Come on boys – Cup of concrete (and harden up!) 😉

Just kidding – Sam and I went to school together…I can get away with that….

Morning!

Bob threw out some gang signs – don’t mess with Bob’s Boyz!

Sheesh – i didn’t know I’d crossed into their Hood…

Darren thought he was here for a channel swim…….

Guess that Muppet!

(scroll down for answer…)

Becky’s looking good in her B&B swimmers  – available now ladies – (you will look this good!)

Some last minute beach publicity before we go…..

Michael heads back today – This is right before he broke down weeping at the thought of leaving us behind.

The only thing that calmed him down was the thought of getting back to Jules….

The water was crisp – 16.9c and still a little murky from the NEr yesterday….. there was a lot of fish just swimming around in large schools…

Mullett everwhere….

Liz Jones in the background here trying to find a good looking mullett… she’s still looking….

Some PJ love….

Proof that unicorns exist – they’re just fish and we call them Leather Jackets….

Friday’s catfish was soooo popular – here he is again – from another angle!

Renae’s Gary bodysurfing in…

Guess that Muppet!

Answer: (come on – seriously – who else would it be???)

James Walker – my downstairs neighbour and one of the B&B Doctor Posse – successfully swam the English Channel on Sept 25!

James Walker who swam the English channel in 15 hrs to raise money and awareness for Lupus. For anyone who’s ever put a toe in the cold waters of the channel, this is an incredible achievement. Well done Jim! If you’re feeling generous, drop a donation in @ https://www.justgiving.com/James-Walker269/

Special Event – Monthly Dinner – Bluewater Cafe – Next Tuesday 1st October

At our monthly dinner next Tuesday night at Bluewater Cafe at 6.30 pm we will be launching the new B&B Attendance App! If you are tired of waiting in the queue to tick your name off, then the App is an exciting development. We will have a presentation to show you how you can log on from your phone/computer before you swim, without having to tick. Come along and find out all the details.

The dinner is also a great chance to catch up with your B&B friends at an informal gathering. The cost is excellent value at $20 for two courses, with $5 drinks, $5 desserts and no corkage for BYO wine. Bluewater also now offers $25 special meals in addition to our standard $20 deal.

Bookings are essential so book early HERE to avoid disappointment, as numbers will be limited to 100. Remember, the latest batch of 500 and 1000 km badges will also be presented, so it should be a HUGE night.

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.

Lainey-Loo, this gorgeous photo you put on your blog on Thursday is not a Porcupinefish (Family Diodontidae) but a Toadfish, in the Pufferfishes family (Tetraodontidae). They both can inflate their body (puffing up), but the latter are spiny.

I’d say yours is a Smooth Toadfish (Tectractenos glaber), but there are 2 other species it resembles. I’ll send it to Mark at the OzMus for confirmation of ID.
Lovely pic – you’ll soon be an official OzMus photographer!

Or even better Lesley, you do to them what they did to that poor PJ. (assuming they are male swimmers)
But seriously, that’s disgusting behavior. Unacceptable.
Clearly, Ian is not doing his job regarding background checks for new swimmers.
    Great blog Nick. As always.

    I’m disgusted.
A marine reserve prohibits the handling of any marine life. But even if it wasn’t, that’s pretty yobbish behaviour.
Makes me feel that having a swim group in a marine reserve may not be such a great idea if people do such irresponsible things.
