29/09/2014 – the day the blogger forgot

29/09/201411

This is how Heather saw in Monday morning.  Simply stunning don’t you think?  Then along with 80 or so other swimmers, she turned up at B&B central to plunge into the glorious 18.7 degree water.  Unlike our regular Monday blogger who didn’t quite make it. . . .

Manly was abuzz with activity.  The combination of school holidays, the tourist season kicking off and the blamy spring weather has ensured the beach front is a happening place.  Booty Campers were every where!

While the sea was sparkling, the nor’easter had been blowing in the nasty blue bottles – the feared nasty was rumoured to be hanging out in the bay.  So being brave souls, we went the other way towards the North Steyne.  It was great to do something different.  The super clear water and rolling waves made it uber fun.

Not a lot of fish hunting, but there was one of those green moss things on the beach.  They almost look – and feel – like synthetic turf!

Now if you would like to check out all things fishy in Cabbage Tree Bay, here is a link to a site that is fantastic. Its a website put together by John Sear, who dives in the Bay. Lots of fish I have never seen.  Apparently the Australian Museum uses it as a reference and there are many surprises…

And speaking of surprises, there was a reappearance of the hoola hoop today!

Here Richard proves that he is a much better swimmer than hoola hooper.

Lesley, as usual, is a class act.

And Elaine is a natural.

Enjoy this beautiful weather 🙂

See you tomorrow.

Monthly Dinner – Special Guest Speaker
Bluewater Restaurant – Tuesday 14 October at 6.30 pm
The next monthly dinner will feature one of our swimmers, Penny Berents, who is a marine biologist and currently a Senior Fellow at the Australian Museum Research Institute. Penny has been swimming and diving in Sydney waters for more than 40 years. Her talk will be about the animals of Cabbage Tree Bay, both those that we see on our swims and the smaller more cryptic beasties that we don’t see but are important in the ecosystems of the Bay. She will also talk generally about the ecology of the area.
Usual deal: Dinner is only $20 a head and includes shared entrees, a selection of mains to choose (incl a vegetarian option), corkage (for byo wine only) and a little thank you for the staff. Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL: To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please BOOK HERE NOW

Lovely swim – fun to do something different. I accidentally picked up someone’s aqua sphere goggles the other day – please ask Ian if you have lost them.

some of us turned right and swam to Shelly. Luckily no blueys that I was aware of. – just bouncy like an average nor-east wind swell.
    – Still fun though and hula hooping at the finish was a surprise ending.
There was a pair of Eyeline flippers on the table that might have been forgotten.
