Ewww…It’s a long blog today folks but what a swim! Don’t think I’ve ever seen the bottom of the ocean so clearly all the way across the bay in my 5 years of swimming. Around 180 happy souls joined in today in 18.6 degree water on a sparkling Spring day! Sea life in abundance, smiles aplenty and sunshine!
These two newly 60 year olds enjoy a chat before their swim, Peta and Roger. Don’t they look good?!!
Debbie from Galston is back from her overseas trip. What does everyone say when you ask them about their holiday, ‘It’s good to be back though!’
We had whales out there today too! Everyone was looking and trying to direct my camera to a distant splash in the ocean. I’m afraid when you’ve been so close to a Southern Right as 43 of us were, I’m not that impressed!
13 year old Daniel was one of 4 newbies and joined us from WA today. Well done Daniel.
Still looking for that whale…
You should have been there guys!
Peta, Tony and Kerry
Guy is still practising piano as he gets in the water 😉
Lisa, Sophie and Kath
Lisa gets in a lot of photos today. Here she is again with Jenny, Nicky, Georgina and Kath
Yes almost the same as one above but exudes so much joy I had to include!
Swimmer in action and visibility is so amazing!
The beautifully coloured seagrass and weed we swim over to the point.
Please wait at The Point! Hardly anyone did today and it’s always been the thing we do for safety and social reasons.
A lot of swimmers have been swimming closer to the rocks lately to avoid Jimbles. Hopefully you have seen the beautiful Old Wives and Diamondfish we snorkelers always harp on about. They were everywhere today!
Schools of Yellowtail
Zac, JP, Jeff and Sparkles
Sterling, Dave, Scrappy Scotty and friend
Rob, Charles and Mel’s crew.
It’s Mel’s birthday!
Richard and friend.
Mel’s birthday splash and song!
And off we go!
I rarely get stung by a Jimble. In fact was feeling rather left out until this one got me on the inside right arm. He was near the rocks too, usually the place you don’t see them. Funnily enough hubby Ted got stung in the same place 10 minutes earlier!
Very sick Porcupinefish 🙁
Stars and Stripes Pufferfish
Lots of people are back to the benches with the warmer mornings. We even get our free circus show with Sam and Anna’s acrobatic exercises!
Below pre-loaded photos
This beautiful Herring Kale with the blue streak in it’s tail has been hanging around The Point recently. This is a male, the female is a motley mustardy/brown colour. Find out more by clicking the link.

Port Jackson shark over the boulders at The Bower surf break. They come to this area to mate. If you are lucky you can catch them in action or just see a male prowling around looking for a girlfriend… (If it’s JP stay well away!!!)
Swimming with the lovely Natadicerus on Monday…
There have been loads of Diamondfish around lately. Love how they are sticking close together in this shot!
Two of my faves, Nicky and Sue!
Nicky, Karen, Derek, Michele and Martin
French Patrick and his family at the weekend. They didn’t quite coordinate their dive!
Weekend Shenanigans
Izzy hosted a surprise 80th birthday party for our lovely ex vet/fish expert Jane Stevenson, at the weekend. Jane promises to come back swimming soon!
…and a lot of us celebrated Ed’s 63rd birthday on Sunday. The Docs didn’t think he’d get this far after his pancreatic cancer diagnosis 2 years ago so a very special occasion and a fun afternoon. Wishing darling Ed the very best. His next goal is to make it to Christmas. If anyone would like to be on the soup roster for a serving of soup once a fortnight let me know.
Enjoy every moment folks

Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

B & B October Monthly Dinner
The next B&B monthly dinner will be on Tuesday 11th October at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. The guest speaker for the night will be Di Westaway, one of our swimmers and head of Wild Women on Top (WWOT). Her talk is titled “NATURAL EXHILARATION design a life you love”. Di believes that Adventure is Fun. It motivates you to get off the couch and into action. Di will explain how natural exhilaration can transform your life. Doctors call it Lifestyle Medicine. WWOT call it natural adventure. But it’s not for everybody. It’s only for people who really want to get their sparkle back and flourish in a busy buzzy world.
The cost of the dinner is only $25 a head and includes shared entrees, a selection of mains to choose (incl a vegetarian option), corkage (for byo wine only) and a little thank you for the staff. Lainey you have outdone yourself!! What a brilliant blog. I love all the fish photos and the opportunity to learn more about them by the link! Thank you for that. I saw two reef leather jackets the other day and wondered what they were. So thanks for that lesson. Beautiful swim- one of my most special ones!

What a blog!
I imagined if I was new to the group and read this for the first time; the swim, the people, the experience – how impressive our morning lives are! Thanks Elaine.

Thank you for the truly beautiful photos, Lainey. Especially liked the schooling Diamond Fish.
After turning up yesterday for the depleted 6am group to discover rumour of most departing at 5:30, I fronted up 30 minutes earlier today to find the newly instituted 5:30 group is but an urban myth!
For a serene and sublime first lap it was only the fish keeping me company. Just enchanting.
