28/01/2013 – Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No….

28/01/201321

…it’s the Welsh Wrestler!

There are certainly some colourful characters in the Bold & Beautiful swim squad but this one certainly takes the cake. He was seen around Manly on Australia day fighting crime with his trusty pinata but no one seems to know his real identity…I doubt we will ever find out.

But even this Superhero would certainly have struggled in the tough conditions this morning. The swell was meant to hit 6m!!! And it didnt dissapoint…

Some people were not worried at all, Anne and Pauline were happy with the conditions. Can anyone spell K.R.A.Z.Y.?

I was asked to mind these boys who were particularly afraid of the big conditions.

JK explained the situation: “I dont care what you lot do, just dont drown on my watch”

Vanessa buddy’d up with one of the newbies, I think her name was Jenny K or something. I hope she put her name down on the newbie list so we can find out!

Walkin the mile….walking the green mile……

So we got to half way where it was almost completely flat and no waves at all!

Elaine pushed all the “Men” aside and jumped straight in!

Rainer was crying like a little baby and eventually decided not to swim. But thats ok Rainer, we know your brother is the brave one in the family.

Ted however was not fazed by the conditions…cool as a cucumber Ted, cool as a cucumber.

The smart ones walked to Shelly and got their feet wet

The really smart ones walked the dog or watched from the sidelines! Sarah & Wilf are officially the smartest B&B’ers!

So we think its a good time to note that it is so important to swim within your limits. We put up Michael Christie’s tips on how to stay safe every day on the blog and personally I have found them invaluable. These tips help beginners and advanced swimmers alike – Please read it here or read it again if you already have!

Here are the key points:

  • Know your limits
  • Know and understand your beach
  • NEVER panic. Always keep CALM
  • Time entry and exit to sets
  • Go out on the rip
  • Come in on the sandbank
  • Swim a maintainable pace so you:
  • Keep your breath
  • Keep your energy
  • Keep your courage

On that note, I will sign off from Bluewater…thanks to Vanessa for keeping me company and spitting egg on me! 😉

Keep swimming and smiling,

(Mini) Robster the Blogster

Robster, how do you manage to get such a witty and funny blog out so quickly? Which reminds me I must get working on my Thursday blog…
I loved the swim today! It was so exciting and a lot of other people were slow too! It really is still so worth swimming on days like this!

Wow! Big waves today ….I think I did an even smarter thing and went out last night(to watch the tennis on a big screen of course), drank lots of alcohol to make sure I couldn’t get up in time to swim in those waves!
Love the mini me Rob ….can we all get one? Not sure if a blog spreddy point can be awarded though?!

Fun morning! Thanks for the coverage Rob!
For the record, yes, I did cry like a baby. But only because I felt overwhelmed by the beauty of cabbage tree bay and my fellow swimmers this morning. I did swim to Shelly, but Shaun and I stayed at the back of the pack to sheep herd the slower swimmers to shelly. You’re welcome Drinky, Richard, and Bruce.

And what a sad night of tennis it was! I drowned my sorrows for Andy. (Great tennis though!)

A happy blog for a happy fun swim, thanks Rob!
Nurse J, I casually looked at the Pacific Challenge today (as you know I rarely look at it and only discovered it when pointed out to me by DWSS recently).
You may be riding on top today but if you don’t swim tomorrow I think we’ll be changing positions!

Rob, I noticed there were no in-water shots today. Did the camera get waterlogged or something?
