28 January 2017 – Something to crow about

January 28, 20174

Welcome to the Year of the Rooster. This is supposed to be a lucky year unless you are born in the year of the rooster. . .

Luckily it looks like nearly everyone remembered that the swim was starting at Shelly this morning. I did remember when Ted and Elaine reminded me – lucky for me they came along don’t you think?

There is nothing like a welcoming committee to make you feel at home. This mob certainly make my day.

Rainer managed to look nonchalant just in case the blog camera was near by.

It was a bit ‘swimmers everywhere’, this morning. There did appear to be lots of groups heading in all directions across the bay. With the conditions were more like Lake Shelly;  completely flat, sun shining, pretty good visibility and deliciously warm at 22.2 degrees, it was a beautiful swim.

At the point Mr Bond, looking very dapper in his orange sweatshirt, was keeping a watchful eye on the squad lest anyone stray into the Nippers Carnival territory.

These swimmers knew when to stop – right at the point with the club house roof in the background.

Lisa was keen to introduce these two newbies to the subtle (or not so subtle art) of blog tarting.  With practice they will certainly excel. Hope you keep coming back!

With the visibility slightly improved it was a delight to see the small fish have returned to the bay. The storm in June seemed to have caused many of the small fish to disappear. First up were the Old Wives hanging around the white rocks.

Don’t know the name of these ones, but it has been a while since I’ve seen them.

And the glorious Yellow Tail are back!!  These are great fish to have in the bay – I’m told they eat jellyfish larvae. May they feast long and hard in the Bay ’cause there are many of us who are quite over the nasty biting larvae.

And these are baby Garfish.  You might see them swimming just below the surface of the water.

And here are the very happy doublers.  Or perhaps it should be called the New Dads Group – there were a few new dads having a dip to refresh themselves for another sleepless night.

Once out of the water everyone seemed to disperse very quickly, so no photos of the lingering crew enjoying post swim coffee.  However there were two birthdays; Michele Franks and Phil Stollery – hope you both have a fabulous day.

Enjoy your Saturday.

Pacific Jules Swim coach

Join Pacific Jules coach Sarah Anne for an hour in the ocean and learn to swim with less fight and more speed!  This series of workshops will teach you key essential skills ensuring your stroke is efficient, powerful, fluid, and fast!

  1. Propulsion and Power – Saturday 11 March 9-10am

There are some key areas for power in your stroke, but they may not be where you think!  Many swimmers use their arms and legs incorrectly when swimming, chewing up energy and causing unnecessary splash and resistance.  Swimming should be a whole body experience, timing is everything, and you need to ensure you are working with the water and not against it. The H2O will always win!

  1. Breath Easy- Saturday 6 May 9-10am

One of the most common issues we here from swimmers is around breathing.  But, there are some key elements to your body alignment, position, and breath management that need to be in place before you even think about turning your head towards the air.  Join us for an hour in the water where we focus purely on the essentials skills for breathing with more ease, and flow.

  1. Open Water Specifics – Saturday 8 July 9-10am

This is a high energy session for the end of our series! Adapting your stroke for open water is essential if you want to swim in the ocean, or compete in swimming events.  Learn some key changes that need to be in place, how to sight, how to enter and exit the water, buoy turns, and how to conserve energy in the swim by utilising those around you!

What to bring: swim suit, cap, goggles, wetsuit, water and money for a hot cuppa afterwards!

Cost = $25 per workshop

Limited to just 10 people so please book in early to avoid disappointment.

Please email Sarah Anne directly to book on info@pacificjules.com.au or call 0420 923 067 for more info.

Splendid swim. Thanks for blogging Mary. I just want to add that Lyndall did an exceptional job as double ‘let’s go’ yeller this morning.
    Happy Birthday Michele & Phil!

Indeed Lyndall was terrific. Perhaps there is the potential to have Lyndall as the back up to ol’ golden tonsils JK?
