27th Dec: Eighth Anniversary

December 27, 201625

Wow!

“From an acorn grows a mighty Oak”

Below: Some of the women who were there on the first day eight years ago today!

Original group of six who swam on 27th Dec 2008 with Julie were Jenny Knapman, Deb Hanson, Anita Keelan, Leonie and Cynthia.

Smiling Ted

John’s advice was needed today.

Shaun giving advice

Mat in the middle with possible family members.

Jill triumphant!

Adrain (very good water polo player) with daughter

Peter and lovely wife!

My great sister Jenny!

Out they go!

Tony on bike.

Peter and Penny

Edwina

Sue’s first swim

Wind:     It’s a blue-bottler coming from NNE
Stingers:   Nil  (surprisingly)
Vis:           Actually not so bad – I could see sandy bottom for half the distance
Flotsam:   Lots of litter on beach, and plenty floating plastics in close

Brian is in Foster so I am his sub. Cheers, Terry

Happy birthday pink caps. Thanks to all those swimmers for making something that I could join. It is central to me now. Very dramatic sea for the occasion today

Happy birthday B n B! How appropriate that there will be a story on this fantastic swimming group in tomorrow”s “Summer Herald”, thanks to the lovely Helen Pitt, whom some of you met several weeks ago. Should be a good read. And congrats to Jill! (I have almost completed my first 100 km.)

Wow! Could any of those intrepid original swimmers have imagined that eight years on that over 100 people would have notched up 1000kms? Well done to you for coming back on day two.
Congrats Jill. It is a delight swimming with you.

Terry, great blog – thanks for blogging today! I love the pic of Jill and the one a few down showing the condition of the surf!
The B&B really have become our ‘village’, our community – a really fabulous group!
Wishing you all lots of lovely swims in the New B&B Year!
Keep looking out for each other when conditions are rough, such as turning round when you reach the Point and later come back to the beach, to check those behind are OK!

Great blog Terry, you’re a natural. Water temp on the Gold Coast is a couple degrees higher than Manly, but swimming without you ain’t the same thing 🙂 See you in a week or so!
