27/12/2015 Happy Birthday to the B&B

27/12/201511

That’s right, today seven years ago our original group of swimmers decided to swim to Shelly beach and back again – waiting at The Point and again at Shelly for all swimmers and heading back to South Steyne. The B&B swim was born!

Two became, four became six – here’s an archive piccie of the original swimmers -sadly I couldn’t find any of them today.

Breaking news: Anne took the temperature today!!!!! Where is John Bond??

…….and Anne was allowed to write up the temperature AND the news.

Ah, I see ……Anne has special privileges today as its her sixth year anniversary of swimming today!

Lesley has been asked to keep her ears open while the real management are taking a well deserved break and put this joker in charge!

Elizabeth does a fine job of welcoming newbies.

Mary knows we are celebrating a birthday…….!! And obviously I am the one that can’t count!

With Rainer away, we have a new blog tart extra……..Ros, spot her in the photos today!

Breaking news: Best Christmas present alert – great topical/tropical shorts!

Breaking news: pjs are allowed down at the beach!
A team have dwindled in numbers today, thankfully Sterling has shown up to get some extra triple crown training in.

Phew! I found a fellow swimmer in a wetsuit!

Despite overnight winds, the sea was lovely and calm today.

Put your hand up if you love swimming!

Or two if you are Ros and want to get noticed 🙂

A different view of The Point.

I saw this Wobby at Shelly…..

.

…..having a stand off, with a flathead! (Look closely – flathead at the bottom of the pic)

….I took a while to get to Shelly today, ahem, and no it wasn’t because I am slow! So only managed a couple of photos before the lets go…..

There’s always a story, here we have Kye and Penny. Kye has only swam with us once before, and Penny came all the way from Brisbane to swim with us today and was very excited to be part of our inclusive group.

Happy Birthday Bold & Beautiful.

…..and few pics from Christmas Day swim ….

Wear something Christmassy they said …..

….so we did! Greg jingling all the way.

Beware: Too many Christmas puddings, may mean you struggle to fit into your Christmas outfit!

The best Christmas couple! Elaine and Ted in one of their many outfits.

Storchy was very happy with his Hello Kitty man bag present from Drinky. Skye surfed in her Santa outfit!

Sparkles looking Christmassy

Peter in only his Christmas apron.

….and our very own Christmas fairies!

Signing off:

Me with stand-in management. Serious note DWSS you will do a magnificent job over the next few weeks.

B&B Notice Board

2016 Calendars

The 2016 B&B calendars are on sale. Get your copy from any of the helpers at the swim, or order online HERE. They make a great New Year gift for family and friends, here or overseas. This year the calendars are even more impressive in a larger A3 format, all for the same cost as last year – just $15 each.

Parking

B&B members do not have permission to park in any car spot or bay that belongs to the surf club. Please adhere to this rule. There is plenty of parking in the Council car park at no charge to you.

Summer Badges

There are now three badges available for those swimming in summer:

# 1: Saturday 5 December kicked off the 6 km summer badge swims. These are on every Saturday during summer.

# 2: There is one 10 km swim in December, February and March 2015/16. The first 10 km swim was on Saturday 12 December. Watch the blog for details of the second 10 km swim, to be held in February.

# 3: Our new badge, the Shelly Triple, involves a triple lap of Cabbage Tree Bay (i.e. swim to Shelly Beach and back to The Point three times – total 3.5 km). This swim can be completed any day and should be logged on the i-log system. Since this is designed for those who are unable (or unwilling) to do the longer swims, this badge is only available to those who haven’t completed a 6 km or 10 km swim during the season.

Really important with the big waves we’ve had recently! Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Lovely B&B birthday blog for its 7th birthday – but goodness it felt a bit like winter! Now Snorkles, how many fingers do you see?

Oops! Sorry Mary, I’ve fixed it up now.
Clearly my brain is on holiday 😉

Great, cheery blog again Snorkles! She is too modest to tell us that in true B&B style she was assisting and supporting a new swimmer who got a bit anxious on the way to Shelly. That’s why she was late getting to Shelly Beach for photos. Good on you Snorks!
If anyone feels like a Christmas drink at Manly Skiff Club a few of us will be down there later probably from around 3pm. All welcome!

Great Blog Snorkles ! Felt like I was actually there, and not in a coffee shop across town 🙂
Good to see Ros unleashing her inner Rainer (avoided his nickname for good reason)

    Nice work Snorks.
Well done on assisting a struggling swimmer and I am still wondering what
the olive skin on a nearby swimmer had to do with a rescue. 🙂
    True BandB spirit.
Congratulations Penny on completing your first swim.
It was great watching your throw your arms in the air and high fives all round.
Your enthusiasm was great fun to be part of.
