Welcome to the 5th Birthday of the Bold & Beautiful, Manly!
The Daily Telgraph has just interviewed Ian Forster and are running a story on us online….
Click the images to go to the piece…

5 Years ago, in the post apocalyptic haze of Christmas, and before the New Year apocalypse – some ladies decided to go for a swim in Manly, got lost, ended up in Shelley, and the rest is history!
With over 6,040 on our lists, and a massive turnout today, 374 people celebrated 5 years of B&B by doing what we do best…

It was a little hazy today, with a pleasant Northeaster wafting the salt air onto the headlands, with a fairly flat and gentle sea…

Our corner was buzzing, right from 6:45…

The stars of the day were of course “the Originals” who have showcased a range of new headgear ideas.
Mahdi Deaton models one of the new designs, and, Mahdi is the supplier of all of the current B&B hats through accesscomms.com.au

Sandy, did you actually swim in that??

Deb Hanson doesn’t do pics without her agent present to negotiate!

Bernhard and …..daughter?

The Originals – (Minus one of course)

…and we are “good to go”…

Shelley buzzed with that bigger than 300 kind of buzz……

The “Big 4” of Blog Tartery deserve a special pic….

So many tarts – so little time…..

There has been a lovely school of Old Wives hanging around near Trevally Alley,
..which is great cos we can’t see much else!

…but I did have the opportunity for a murky grope…

As is the norm these days, after a great 5th birthday swim, parties sprung up everywhere….
The A- list on the benches …

The Establishment…..

Manly Wine hipsters….
..talking about how “mainstream” ocean swimming is these days….

And the Bluewater crew… go for the deal… stay for the love! 😉

Stats:
Swimmers: 374!
Newbies: 40!
Water: 21.6c
Sunrise: 5:44am
Sunset: 8:07pm
Have a great 5th Birthday everyone!

B&B Attendance Login App
Come on folks – there are so many good reasons to use the B&B Login App. No queues, no need for glasses so you can find your name, and it is eco friendly. With the aim of becoming carbon neutral the B&B Login App reduces our paper consumption. Log your swim between 5am and 9am for the easy way to ensure your swim is recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge.
To get started, send an email to Ian Forster (ugoboyo@gmail.com). He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to get started. Happy clicking.
Summer badge swims
Every Saturday during summer there will be a 6km swim – usual route is to Freshwater and back; then once a month there is a 10km swim – this is to South Curl Curl and back. However, the final route depends on conditions that day so it is a good idea to arrive a little early to have a briefing from the designated swim leader. Both swims kick off at 7am.
The next 10km swim is scheduled for 11 January depending on conditions.

Such a happy swim and you captured the atmosphere perfectly Nick. It’s Vicky Harbutt who buys all the caps isn’t it not Madhi?
Remember if you are new to the B&B swim (or even if you aren’t) we love reading your comments on the bottom of the blog. Us bloggers are all volunteers and it’s nice to hear how you enjoyed the blog, what you liked about the swim, any amazing marine creature you saw etc!

I am so pleased the originals got this going
For my time in the Sunshine Coast I have linked up with the Mooloolaba swimmers who loosely gather at 6:30 am weekdays and 7 am weekends for a swim along the Spit a sand beach parallel to the shore
Nice enough but there is no “snap”
The pre/post B and B ambience is a tonic
Looking forward to getting back in mid Jan for my anniversary of the first day I met you amazing inclusive people
Power on

Great blog Nick, and great photos, as always.
We are leaving for a ski holiday to Austria tomorrow night which I booked about 6 months ago. This was before I got addicted to B&B. Now is different. I will miss the B&B camaraderie a lot and will be counting the days til my return. I will use any sleepless nights from jet leg to read the blog and stay in touch with B&B spiritually.
An yes Nick, the girl on the photo is my daughter – not yet addicted, but I am working hard on that.
Happy Birthday B&B

ah nice one Bernhard!! We hear that a lot – people going away, even to amazing locations like Tahiti and still missing the B&B swim and can’t wait to come back! 🙂
Maybe you should have a dip in a freezing cold Austrian lake and see how you go?! 🙂
