26/2/17 – The last Sunday of Summer

26/02/201716

“Summer, adieu, goodbye, au revoir, farewell. Now day comes late; now chillier blows the breeze on forsaken beach”

Today there was a lot of chat about this being the last Sunday of Summer. I awoke to the sound of rain on the roof, so easy to just pull up the doona and doze off but blogging duty beckons. By the time I arrived at the beach, the clouds were parting and the sun breaking through.

To celebrate the oncoming of Autumn, I have called upon some of the great wordsmiths of all time to farewell another sultry Sydney Summer.

Shakespeare – “Summer’s lease hath all too short a date.”

As Lyndall breaks out the new wetsuit already.

The Taoist proverb – “Autumn is the season of change”.  As Martin celebrates a birthday and transitions into another year.

And Jasmine signs up for her first swim with us.

“People don’t notice whether it’s winter or summer when they’re happy.” — Anton Chekhov

Autumn, when summer gathers up her robes of glory, and, like a dream, glides away.” — Sarah Helen Whitman

“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower”. – Albert Camus

“One must maintain a little bit of summer, even in the middle of winter.” — Henry David Thoreau

“Some of the best memories are made in flip flops.” ― Kellie Elmore

“I could taste the salt on her lips, each kiss like a summer wave breaking on an empty beach.” ― Michael Faudet

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” – Dr. Seuss

“Summer bachelors like summer breezes, are never as cool as they pretend to be.” Nora Ephron

The last word must go to our resident philosopher from lower middle management , a man of few but poignant words , Shaun –

“There shall be eternal summer in the grateful heart “

What a beautiful poetical blog and with all the fun of the fair as well…. starting with a breathtakingly lovely opening photograph. Roll out the seasons… so glad we don’t live on the equator.
