26/09/13 – A Gorgeous and Glamorous Swim!

26/09/201326

169 swimmers including 11 newbies came for a swim with us today! It was calm, warmish, clear and sensational! Sunrise was at 5.38am but so worth getting up for! Someone from England said I live a ‘glamorous’ life the other day judging from my Facebook photos. They are all of our swim!!! We must look glamorous in our pink caps guys!!

Manly sparkles…

There were quite a few groups of early swimmers this morning. Fiona heads off with a 6am group hoping not to get head butted today. Please look out for other swimmers as sometimes they do appear from the other direction. (Or follow close behind someone else then they can be your shield and pull you along a bit!)

Here’s Shaun putting a bit of glamour in to the B&B!

A swim for young and old, family and friends…Brad brings his kids along today.

Retha isn’t related to Michael Christie or John Forster by the way;-)

Now here is Lizzie pointing out Nick ‘Cuddles’ Dawkins who is going to be performing at the Wooloomooloo Bay Hotel next Wednesday alongside other legends of the ocean swimming world. We must go along and hear his and other swimmers stories! Please click on link at end of blog to book tickets!

The water is clear around the point and a lot of us are looking for the huge bull ray we swam with yesterday. Hello Lucy!

I discover these blog tarts harrassing the yellowtail!

It’s easy to get left behind if you look for fish  but you can always get out at Halfway and run around to Shelly!

Dave’s daughter Sally, is visiting from Melbourne. Will she ever want to leave Manly? She is even joining in  Storchy’s ‘Boot Camp’ tomorrow at 6am. Storchy is excited. He’s offering free pancakes to newbies tomorrow and berry compote on the side if you bring a friend! What’s more, like the B&B swim, it is totally free, inclusive and welcoming!

And it’s lovely Ed’s 60th birthday! (You’ll be going backwards now Ed as ocean swimming makes you look and feel younger!)

Time to look out for some fish on the swim back. I’ll fess up most of these photos were taken yesterday but these sea creatures were seen by some of our swimmers today too. It was magical swimming above the huge ray yesterday! The wobbegong was lying between rocks at the point and the beautiful leatherjackets are around that area too.

Caught Nick in a great position trying to get up close to a pj shark yesterday! Later in the day I caught him having his morning tea. (The shark not Nick 😉

There have been schools of these gorgeous looking porcupine fish hanging around lately. When you zoom in they have the best googly eyes!

And last but not least…Catch of the Day…Jean Paul!!! Older than you think, fun loving and available!!!

Events Coming Up!

One of our swimmers, Lizzie Crowhust, has organised a fantastic night of storytelling around ocean swimming, next Wednesday October 2nd. It is at Wooloomooloo Bay Hotel and sounds such a fun night and is a fundraiser for Can Too. Good old Nick the Blogger has agreed to do his bit regaling the audience with tales of the B&B swims. We really should go and support him and have a fun night. Click on the link here to find out more and buy tickets!

Special Event – Monthly Dinner – Bluewater Cafe – Next Tuesday 1st October

At our monthly dinner next Tuesday night at Bluewater Cafe at 6.30 pm we will be launching the new B&B Attendance App! If you are tired of waiting in the queue to tick your name off, then the App is an exciting development. We will have a presentation to show you how you can log on from your phone/computer before you swim, without having to tick. Come along and find out all the details.

The dinner is also a great chance to catch up with your B&B friends at an informal gathering. The cost is excellent value at $20 for two courses, with $5 drinks, $5 desserts and no corkage for BYO wine. Bluewater also now offers $25 special meals in addition to our standard $20 deal.

Bookings are essential so book early HERE to avoid disappointment, as numbers will be limited to 100. Remember, the latest batch of 500 and 1000 km badges will also be presented, so it should be a HUGE night.

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.

    As always Elaine,
You have done a fabulous job of capturing the marvellous morning!
The Lemur Run had a great turnout this morning and we enjoyed the most beautiful sunrise conditions communing with all the fish.
    And no head buuts!

Neat blog Elaine. And great photos, as always.
Now, while we’re on the topic of BnB speed dating (last photo), Jane W, aka Baby Jane, asked me to announce that she’s officially off the market now.
She hooked up with a gentleman from QLD and will be leaving Manly on Sunday. She will bring her new man down for a swim on Saturday, so don’t miss it!
    We’ll miss you Jane! 🙂

Nice one Lainey! Loved catching up with the stories and superb pics from this morning as it was Richard’s turn to swim today.
Looking forward to my turn tomorrow even more now!
Quick question – when do the boulderdashes (not sure of the spelling) start again?

    Good on ya Izzy.
It’s great to see you doing the double.
And Shaun and I have had the pleasure of seeing Izzy go from the class naughty one to being the biggest PLANKER around!
Plus I have witnessed Izzy body surf her first three waves ever!!!
    How cool is that!
    She’s an angel dolphin dancer!

Maybe, like our eligible bachelor JP, he’s older than you think?!!
    But probably not.
The girl in that photo couldn’t be older than 18? So youthful looking…

Thanks for the plug Lainey Loo. Looks like I am pointing at Nick’s nipple! Come for tipples (not nipples) with a bunch of tell tales next Wednesday. Should be a reet larf. I’m promised tales of whales, wails, witches and wetsuits. And a bar is a great place to go looking for the catch of the day!

    Elaine
I think that’s the first time leatherjacket have featured on the blog this year (pls correct me if Im wrong).
They are THE coolest fish and sooo dopey, swimming forward and back with their pectoral fins like a humming bird in flight.
    Thanks!
