What a hive of activity the beach was this
morning!
There were the usual surfers, who, much like seagulls you just expect to be hanging out for a wave. Plus the surf boat mob training for precision scaring of early entry B&B’ers. . . The soft sand classic must be coming up because there is a definite increase in the number of sand lappers too. Then there are the walkers and joggers doing the Manly – Shelly route. Jenny was doing her very best to keep the 105 sleepy B&B’er out of harms way as we milled around to work out Simon’s clever check in system this morning.
Bit of a challenge as the brain cells hadn’t
quite kicked in. . . At first glance it
did look like a secret intelligence agency had been protecting sensitive
information. Could this have something
to do with John 007?
With Simon’s test completed, it was down
the rank to negotiate the weed barrier left by the high tide.
Sadly the cloud cover hid the sun this
morning, but I can report that with a water temperature of 23.3 degrees, a few
gentle waves and lovely clear water, the collective smiles were enough to rival
the sun.
Hanging out at the point we could see that
the playground was not only above the water!
Literally, the most enormous school of yellow tail I have ever seen went
from the point to well into the bay. The
colour of the water reminded me of looking into an aquarium with its night
light on; stunning blue with the swimmers, rocks and fish glistening as they caught the
light. Really wish that Stephen had this
camera today, but hopefully you can grasp a little of this gorgeous seascape
from these few images.
The Celeb “Let’s Go” was delivered by the
dynamic Lesley and Jenny duo. Great
projection gals even though no one went. . .
Apologies for the quality of the photos, but there was a serious campaign
of photo bombing going on.
I reckon this was the slowest swim I have
ever done with the B&B. With such fabulous
conditions why would you want it to stop!! There was a lot to see.
See you soon.

B&B’ers
doing stuff
On Sunday, 5 B&B’ers (Miles, Brendan
Maher, Alex Prendergast, Iain McGregor and Sabine Homrighausen) all completed
the 5-hr Swim4Autism charity event at the Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton Pool in the
Domain. Each swam 5-hrs solo clocking up nearly 80kms. Brendan did an
incredible job swimming with flippers and snorkel, ‘submarine-style’. Sabine
took line honours with 16.8kms. Together
they raised over $1,100 for Swim4Autism. Amazing poolside support was provided
by Nicole Piha and Alison Annett.

An amazing and admirable effort from th Frosty Nuts, especially Sabine and Brendan. What legends!
I’ll be making a donation to the cause most definitely.
We are so lucky to have such talented swimmers among us for inspiration.

IT was SOOOOOOOO clear – turquoise clear!!
And how about the Eagle Ray a few of us saw near the point on the way back!!! HUGE!
Yeah I agree Mary, I was in there for 20 extra minutes it was so magnificant!
Yeah re: photo bombing / Lips – he will go to any lengths to bomb…and has now stooped to a new all low…I am not sure I like what he bombed in front of my face in above photo!!! 😀

Lips is shameless. He has picked up some bad habits over the summer.

Come on Mary, you were following my every move this morning. Trying to get some of those iconic white groper shots for your blog. I barely had a moment of privacy at Shelly.
If you weren’t such a lovely person I would have felt seriously harassed by you.

Jane, thanks for forming the 6:59 splinter group with me this morning. Lovely swim over. Sorry I lost you at Shelly whilst trying to escape Mary’s camera..
See you tomorrow!

Thanks Fifi,
In the 5 hour swim for autism in the Andrew Boy Charlton pool on Sunday with the Nuts, final distances were:
16.8 km Sabine Homrighausen First female and first overall. Sabine the machine!
16.6 km Miles Tollan First male. Not Good Milo, Great Milo
16.5 km Alex Prendergast. Awesome. A couple of scary moments when I tumble turned not knowing “Plex” was bearing down on me. I knew who would be coming off second best in that collision, so The Submarine had to dive, dive, dive!
16.2 km Iain McGregor. Typically “I haven’t done much swimming lately” but still churned out over 16ks
12.6 km me, aka “The Submarine”, aka “The Snorkel” aka “the Speed Bump”. All I can say is 5 hours is a hell of a long time to kick with fins and a snorkel.
A great day with great people and for a great cause. Thanks so much to Miles for organizing and to Nicole Piha and Alison Annett for looking after us on the day. If you wish to donate, please go to http://www.swim4autism.com/ and donate on Miles Tollan’s page.
PS Off the presses- the insurance for the Maui swim has been sorted out, so the event will go ahead. I’m not going this year, but for anyone interested, I can put them in contact with the guy at Tatts who gets all the discounts on rooms, etc

A pleasure Rainer. And wasn’t it nice to get to Shelly early and watch them all arriving? Makes a change from being waited for! Fab. snorkelling conditions – and I reckon E-lane is the best fish-twitcher I know. She spotted the giant Eagle Ray, a Moray Eel AND the Giant Cuttlefish, and I missed them all!

What a compliment, a fish twitcher. Thanks Jane. Yes, I went back for my camera after seeing cuttlefish and old wifes. (is it wives or wifes in this instance?)Then i saw the huge eagle ray and the moray eel being harassed by a crimson banded wrasse. I am going fish hunting after my day teaching if anyone wants to come!

Shameless! Not a day goes past that Lips trys to out do LSA on the blog spreddy …..it is getting quite tiresome.
I am actually quite glad that I can now almost guarantee to adhere to the NO LIPS policy on SUNDAYS BLOGS.

Michael, now that you’ve arranged a 20K badge down your way in rough, shark-infested waters with annoying time limits, I’m arranging one here in Hong Kong in August for those who like warm, calm, leisurely, shark-free, latte-sipping, shopping en route swims! Lots of interest in this one unlike yours. Xi Jinping mentioned he might join us too:-))
