25/02/2015 – Ageing Fearlessly at the B&B!

25/02/201510

Our oldest B&B swimmer, the legendary Mr Wilf Deck (why wasn’t he knighted by Abbott??) and our youngest gorgeous Millie Edwards, 16 days old, came out to play this morning and what a morning it was!

Started off with a beautiful late sunrise as the sun tried to find a way out amongst mountain shaped cloud formations…

Katrina, former champion swimmer/Dunhill girl and bare back stallion rider embraces “ageing fearlessly”, our blog title for today. Our B&B swimmer lovely Karen Sander has her book launch on Sunday at Club Totem 2-4pm. Please come along (more details bottom of blog).

Henrietta and Dorset, in their 60’s but loving our morning swim and getting younger every day!

Our favourite place to be…

Flat and calmer today in the bay but a few clean waves to navigate through on the way out!

As a wave approaches I’m never sure whether to duck dive or do a ‘Superman’ and try to get though it. (usually end up getting dumped!)

Clacker shot of the day is awarded to… (Guess the underwater swimmers and gymnasts in blog comments below.)

I saw 4 graceful Duskies today. How many is the most you’ve seen on one swim? (Don’t be shy, tell us in blog comments!)

Jane, our most mature lady swimmer shows us how life should be lived and age is just a number!

These 2 likely lads, Ian and James have taken their ‘happy pills’ today (a B&B swim that is;-)

New Dad Bradley, proud father of Millie!

After a day not being on the blog yesterday Lips makes sure he gets in it today.

It was Sky’s birthday today. She seemed to enjoy the compulsory soaking!

Numbfish on the way back. I was a bit slow, he swam under a rock (also had camera on wrong setting!)

There were sightings of the lighter and darker coloured wobbegongs today.

And Zab had an amazing encounter with a cuttlefish, so eloquently described above! (her beautiful words not mine)

All these ladies are ageing in superb style!

 And the gents!

Some are even starting to moisturise!

We’ve also all been invited to Merrilee and Sarah’s party at Bayview on Sunday afternoon/evening. (Quite a few of us are going straight from the book launch).Hope you can read the details above without a magnifying glass!

One of our lovely B&B swimmers, Karen Sander is launching her debut book on Sunday 1st March at Club Totem, Balgowlah at 2pm. She thanks everyone who has sent an RSVP and would love more B&Bers to come. There are still a couple of days to rsvp on Facebook or email Karen ideals@bigpond.com. If you feel you are ‘ageing fearlessly’ you can always like her Facebook page womenageingfearlessly!

PS John Bond wants to let you all know that this update supersedes all other updates.

The scheduled date for last the  10K and 6K Swim is Saturday 7 March 2015.

B&B Monthly Dinner
The first B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 10th March at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant, and will include an exclusive wine tasting for B&B members and their friends. Bluewater Restaurant and Fesq Fine Wine Distributors have combined to provide a fabulous meal with four excellent wines to taste during the evening. Ryan, a wine specialist from Fesq, will be on hand to explain the subtleties of each wine.

The cost of the dinner is great value at only $30 a head, which includes the wine plus shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or (additional) wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential:  These dinners are very popular and a lot of fun, they are a great way to socialise looking half decent with your fellow BnB’ers but they sell out fast so book your spot by click HERE

Summer Swims
The next 10km swim is scheduled for Saturday 14 February, 2015. The 6km and 10km swims both start with the normal swim at 7am.

SPECIAL OFFER EXCLUSIVE TO B&B

To help with your heart health, Manly Beach Health Club, in conjunction with REDFEB is offering B&B members a free 30 min Personal Training session. This is a limited offer, so to find out how to take advantage of the offer, click HERE.

Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.  Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Signing off and have a wonderful day folks!

Quality blog Elaine! Love that first photo. What a scoop!
And great photo of Jane. Jane to admit, I always thought Shaun is our most mature female swimmer. I stand corrected..

That last sign off pic is a beauty. Pole dancing on the edge. Probably distracting the great whites in the brine below. 😉

I like your suggestion about a knighthood for Sir Wilf Deck. He gets my vote!

    Smashing Blog Lainey
    28 Duskies – 3 yrs ago.
Yesterday I spotted the rare albino dusky which is slightly larger than the normal. (also slightly more pale than the grey but lets call it albino 🙂 ) one telegraph pole past the pool. He has been around for the last three weeks. Apparently Lurking, but to me, he looked like he was happily swimming around.
Sorry Lippy, I think Lesley is closer on the money but-
I am printing this off to show my children what internet bullying looks like. 🙂

I think Shaun and and I will revel in our immaturity. And a great blog as usual Lainey – I love the underwater shots. Didn’t we have fun fish-spotting on the way back?

I found some grey Land & Sea goggles on the beach yesterday. No scratches on the lenses – looks like someone lost them and the ocean spat them out straight away. Did anyone from the B&B loose some?
