25/11/2013 – Manly in motion

25/11/201310

A perfect morning for swimming and surfing with a gentle off shore breeze and a building swell. Manly was in full swing this morning with boot campers on the beach, joggers on the stairs, swimmers in the water, surfers in the swell, walkers on the promenade and watchers at the coffee shops.

The ocean has cleared up nicely after the rain so visibility under the water was also excellent.

Even the trees seemed to be in motion, you can just see the early morning bolderdashers in the background.

For those of you who missed the dolphin yesterday, 14 year old Will Turner managed to catch it on video.

Alena, from Switzerland,  is staying with us at the moment ostensibly to learn English, but she has developed a taste for surfing and comes to the beach whenever she gets  a chance. She will be ski instructing in Switzerland when she returns home in mid December if anyone needs some ski lessons.

A perfect morning for  a bolderdash!

Or a swim to Shelly

Watching the world go by

Boxers on the beach

I suppose it must be good for you?

Classic clean line of swell, looks like a nice left hander.

Cute puppy, I think it is a Cavoodle?

Kate and Ian

I think Storchy takes great pleasure in dreaming up his boot camp routines, but people obviously like it as there was a great role up this morning.

I will not let this sand bucket beat me

Arabella waiting intently for her sand bucket

Alena taking off on a wave

Aussie salute to the sun

Two new swimmers one all the way from Canada!

Is that a dolphin’s tail I can see?

At shelly

A boat in the bay (I was tempted to knock on the hull and tell them the surfs up)

John Bond and I swam up the beach with Peter to tell Alena it is time to go and to get some more photos for her to take home

Boot campers having coffee on the beach.

Well that’s my lot for the moment as I head off to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos later this week, I will be taking my pink cap and swimmers so will try to get some shots to add to Simon’s catalogue.

Season’s greeting to all, part time blogger Joe Earl signing off.

PS We are looking for a regular and / or part time Monday blogger, if anyone is interested speak to Lesley Coulter or Sara Abbot, training will be provided.

Bnb team up with Ocean Care Day – Sunday 1st December!

Cabbage Tree bay where we swim every day is pretty unique – there are not many places like it in the world – especially so near to a big city!! So please say thanks ‘for having us everyday’ by teaming up with Manly Environment Centre’s 20th annual Ocean Care Day and doing a “Clean-up the Bay” swim on Sunday 1st December. Anyone who wants to participate is asked to bring a net bag (or simply stuff your cossie) with whatever rubbish you find during our regular 7am Sunday morning swim. We’ll pile it up before distributing it to rubbish bins to see how much we collect!
A good idea would be to bring your fins/flippers for the swim as they will help you to get the further down rubbish!!
There are no official prizes for who collects the most, but we know our fishy friends will be grateful (as will every environmentally savvy person who appreciates the treasure we have in our beautiful bay). Stick around to enjoy the festivities. Go this link for more information / full schedule: CLICK HERE

For your diary and other stuff:

B&B “Mad Hatters” Christmas Party
The B & B “Mad Hatters” Christmas Party will be held on Tuesday 3rd December at 6.30 pm in the Moonshine Bar (2nd Floor) at the Steyne Hotel. All swimmers and partners/friends are welcome (no under 18s unfortunately). Wear your craziest hat or other headwear. No need to be shy as we will have the whole bar to ourselves. Finger food will be provided and drinks will be at bar prices. Lots of fun and dancing are guaranteed, with a band featuring one of our very own swimmers. Come along to find out who it is. The cost is $10 per head, with all proceeds going to the running costs of the B&B. Don’t miss out. Bookings are essential. Book HERE now so you don’t miss out!
B&B Attendance Login App
The B&B Attendance Login App is the perfect way to avoid queues!! Log your swim (only if you did swim), between 5am and 9am for the easy way to ensure your swim is recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge.
To get started, please send an email to Ian Forster [ ugoboyo@gmail.com ] requesting to have your account activated. Ian will then send you info on how to get started. No badge, but bragging rights for being an early adopter. Happy ticking.
Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.
