Top 10 reasons I love swimming with Bold and Beautiful:

2. I love the ocean and it’s rejuvenating qualities

3. I love Manly and Cabbage Tree Bay and all the wonderful marine creatures in it

4. I feel so appreciative that it is such a special place I and want to be part of it

5. BnB is 365 days a year!!

6. I feel happier in a group ocean swimming

7. I love all the laughs we have together, especially afterwards

8. All the great people I have met

9. I can run around to half way in a cozzie, swim cap and socks and it’s ok!

10.  I love doing the blog

The TOP 4 reasons I would still do regardless because this swim is so magic and the reason we all get together in the first place…most of us would not have met each other if it wasn’t for this magic little corner  of the world and our love of swimming.

The swim is why we are here!

😉

And today’s swim was no exception!

Even though it was the coldest all year, 102 people turned up because they love it!

And it was COLD!! 🙂

The only newbie this morning was Barb-Bee, pictured here being happily greeted by 2 of our regulars, Toovuouleyeyeya and Mr Licky Puppy! 😀

So why do YOU love swimming with Bold and Beautiful??

I love swimming with B and B because of people like YOU and my lovely friends in Squad Dinks.
I have been swimming in the ocean in the mornings for about 20 years and since being invited along to bandB two years ago by Elaine Kindred I just love it so much more. I know its the same ocean, but it really is so much nicer…the fishes, the whale, the duskies…not to mention the excellent people who make my day so wonderful…Sterch, Anna, Shauny, Dinks, Leswee, Lainey, Fast Cass , Kat, nearly Capless Dave, Jimbo… Too many to name!
The blog is such a bonus. I love checking in later in the day and admiring the lovely pics and great commentary. Love Rainer’s hilarious comments, Mary’s poetic entries, Lesleys hilarious and dry witted posts, Anna’s special philosophies, Ekaine, Nick and Robs great images and jokes, all of them, every day of the week. As if swimming to Shelly and back wasn’t fabulous enough, I get a blog to read and girl guide badges to win!
Sure beats 14C in South Curly pool at 5.30am….or being cleaned up by monster sets! Midge will agree!

    – Challenging ocean swimming in the best spot in Aussie
    – with the kindest and most good-humoured (read: quirky) group of swimmers imaginable!
    – ALSO love the unpredictability and beauty of the ocean every day as we set off
    – and the fact it’s cool to have fun during the swim, to buddy up and come in last! (Read: no boot-camp, super-inclusive)
    – All this exercise and socialising first thing in the morning – the best part of the day!

I love swimming and being part of the group. It’s always a great way to start the day with many laughs and cuddles to be had, besides the awesome marine life and invigorating water. It’s the only time I feel comfortable getting changed in public and feeling like it is acceptable.
    Thanks Lesley

it’s never “just a swim” : )and you can feel superior to the other people around you that would never dream of swimming in the ocean in the middle of winter

All of your reasons Lesbubbles and all of the reasons above.
Also the fact that men can wear small pink pants and not feel ashamed.
A great group – lots of love, positivity and energy. The ONLY way to start the day….

Why I swim with the B&B:
    It started as challenge
To beat the fear of sharks away
But then it became much more than that
    It’s fun in every way
    Awesome sunrises
    Still days, Windy days
    Calm seas, Wild seas
    Sunny days, Rainy days
Sea life abounds, Sea life astounds
    The joy will never fade
    And most importantly
    Great friends have been made

I love the cold-ocean swimming and the feeling of numb feet paddling below my wetsuit. I love the waves that come back from the wall around Marine Parade and make the Bay all wobbly. I love the blue gropers and the cuttlefish. I’m amazed by the fact that I can get out of bed before 7:30am in mid winter, in the dark, and feel happy about it. And I love the swimmers! and especially the folks who put in all that effort for the blogs (so wonderful!) and the daily tally of ticks that goes into the Pacific Challenge. Just love it! Thanks Lesley.

Love the fact you can wear pink pants Rusty 🙂
What a terrific poem Kylie !!
It’s all this and more that I love B&B, such wonderful people and so many talents all shared and brought together in one daily swim 🙂

I miss, in no particular order:
    1. the high it leaves you with for the rest of the day
    2. the reason to get up every morning
    3. the camaraderie & inclusiveness of such fun loving like minded people
    4. the excitement of swimming with amazing and varied marine creatures every morning
    5. the coincidence of maintaining fitness whilst having fun
    6. sharing in people’s excitement of achieving their first swim
    7. watching people improve, gain confidence & then encourage others
    8. the uniqueness of every swim
    9. the après swim
    10. Manly’s most popular daily drama
To mention just a few 😉
Thank goodness there’s the blog so I can enjoy it all vicariously ! 🙂

Wow Lesley!! Great blog. There will be no shortage of comments today.
I look forward to seeing your comment bar chart at the end of today.
A very thought provoking blog while having feel good theme.
Thank you for taking the time to put this together.

I like how when I started swimming last January I was too scared to even open my eyes while under water and that now 6 months later I’m so much more confident and absolutely love the swim.
I like seeing all the sea life (the highlight were the 50 or so dolphins 1 or 2 months ago). I get excited to see the cuddle fish even though I see them nearly every day.
I like it how I thought anyone who swam through winter without a wetsuit was crazy. Now I’m one of those crazy’s myself.
I like my 6.59ers and how we are always the first ones in the water and the last ones out.
I like looking at the blog after I swim and sending it to my family and friends overseas.
I like it that by the time I start work at 9 am I have already swum for 40 minutes and cycled to work for 20 minutes.

Lesbubbles…..I’m still looking for newbie Barb-Bee’s email address so I can send her a welcome email (still doing my little Wednesday job Jules!)
And I just love the B&B even though I’ve still got all the gear (flippers/snorkel etc etc) and no idea after how many years??? Best part of my day.

    24/07/2013 at 3:52 pm

Lesley a truly wonderful blog put together by you today.
The images are great but your words and the responding comments from your many friends encompass the B&B.
The comments certainly support and reflect on how fortunate we are to swim where we do and with those we do.
Lesley, Thank you so much for your (and many other people behind the scenes, Mahdi over 5000 of them!) unselfish ongoing efforts to keep the inclusive B&B going and for your and many others peoples quirky non-judgemental friendships.

Ros me too I love waves that come back from the wall!!!

  • Lesbubbles

    24/07/2013 at 4:37 pm

Yep me too love the unpredictability of the ocean….you never know what will happen!

  • Simon

    24/07/2013 at 5:06 pm

Yes I agree with all of the above. I also like the adrenalin rush at the start of the day.
For anyone wanting to train or prepare for a swimming event I like it that you can always find someone to help push your limits in speed, style and/ or distance.
Equally important is the daily bonus of meeting old and new friends…

    …and it’s FREE!

  • Ed Selby

    24/07/2013 at 5:29 pm

    All of the above PLUS
    – wish I had heard of it earlier
    – wish I had not listened to the people who said “you’re going to swim where/ what time?”
    – that put me back a year only got here in January
    – second thoughts wish I had not even asked anyone from OUTSIDE the group what they thought – they have no idea so they cannot help you
The least judgemental , most diverse group of people who all want everyone else to have a good experience – leave your problems back in the carpark or at home
    No pressure
On my first swim I actually thought it was really exceptional that every one swam to the point and waited and again waited for the last swimmer to arrive at Shelley
I was away for 3 months after I had only gotten to swim for a month and the BLOG KEPT ME ALIVE !!!! and I wondered what all those nicknames meant – still do with some
It’s just a hoot with all the variety of the bloggers – scripted fish life and all – they all give their time to make us liven up
I have actually started to laugh in that invigorating way you do when there is no agenda and loose stories – Keep it up everyone
Thanks to all those who pioneered it

It’s really lovely to read all these comments on why we are all so passionate about this amazing swim/daily drama. A great idea Lesley to encourage everyone to comment. I’ll be quoting some of these fantastic thoughts on the blog tomorrow accompanied by photos! Thanks once again to everyone for their work, time, support, smiles, warmth and friendliness. It really is a lifesaver!

so glad I tuned in at the end of so many wonderful comments. we really are so incredibly lucky to do this every morning. and what is equally wonderful is that we know howlucky we are and we never take it for granted. I never stop feeling grateful for this wonderful group of people, the awesomeness of the ocean, the variable sealife and conditions and that I get to enjoy all of this and stay fit at the same time. totally blessed that’s how I feel… and incredibly grateful. super blog lesbubbles xx

I agree. All of the above, plus you get to swim with whales. By the way, where was Mrs Whale today. She must have forgotten our anniversary. Oh well … maybe tomorrow! Well said Lesbot … and everyone else.

Thanks, Leslie. A late submission. I love all of the above and….
Arriving early, checking out the conditions
The pride/relief of making it to the point after an unexpected set hits
It always seems a bit warmer at the point (hmmmmm!)
The slosh between Bower waves and bounce back from the wall
That hot water bottle and all the variations from crocheted covers to 4-liter mega-model to shower head attachments
Squeezing into a space on a bench in the change room and chatting – and usually being one of the last ones left!
Having a walk after a winter swim and finally feeling my toes at Queenscliff
The Management and all the support staff — thank you all!
And, best of all, doing it all again tomorrow!

Reading the blog at the end of the day and thinking what the beach holds for tomorrow I am so happy that there is a group I can swim with (too scared to swim alone) that has room for a slow swimmer (a genuinely slow one)! Bold and Beautiful is a fabulous thing to have in my life!

    24/07/2013 at 10:23 pm

    Well done Lesbubbles.
Very late addition, everyone is probably asleep before tomorrows swim by now.
Agree with all of the above….swim, fish, people, and that I get to laugh before 8am everyday that i swim.
    An unexpected and great bonus.
Also the challenge to go wetsuit free this winter and surprised at how good it feels.

Even though I am thousands of miles away, and have never met a single one of you, I start each and every day with BnB through this wonderful Blog.
I grew up swimming in the Pacific Ocean in southern California and now swim with Arizona Masters in the US, but hope to pay a visit to your lovely bay sometime in the not too distant future. I am so inspired by all of you. BnB is another reason why I love swimming.

A very very late entry, I did my first swim on Anzac Day this year and wish I had joined BnB sooner, swimming alone is no way as much fun. I love the mornings and getting to see the sun rise is a massive bonus for me, thank you all.

Fantastic to hear Debaru! Just wondering how you heard about our B&B swim? We hope you can join us sometime!
