It felt like winter this morning: grey sky, cold offshore winds, and a thriving population of jimbles frolicking in the bay.
Water temperature dropped to a refreshing 16.8 degrees!
The cold weather seemed to be putting many of our ‘fair weather’ weekend swimmers off. Numbers decidedly down compared to previous weekends:
For the determined few, there was nowhere to hide from the cool breeze:
On a positive note, the cool offshore wind made for glassy conditions:
A good number of swimmers made the most of it and headed for a Boulderdash.
Among the regular 7am mob, plenty of wetsuits were back on display..
Middle management hard at work – registering newbies, handing out pink caps, cracking dad jokes..
After a short debrief with the 6:30 swimmers, a majority of us ended up going North. Leaving Cabbage Tree Bay to the jimbles..
Having been cleared by the Malaysian Court, five of the ‘Budgie Nine’ dropped by to celebrate their release:
Only a few small waves to navigate at entry today..
We swam up to the Trident, which has become the official marker for the ‘Stinger Special’ turning point these days:
Roz informed JK of two birthdays:
And, in line with B&B tradition, the birthday couple got to shout the let’s go..
Another swim done and dusted..
Exhibit #1: Didn’t go North – did get jimbled..
Exhibit #2: Went North – didn’t get jimbled..
Exhibit #3: Mosman Whales
Ian performing his famous winter wetsuit dance:
Fifi’s Frosty Nuts splinter group, running dangerously low on nuts these days:
Fun Fact:
JK is heading off to Melbourne to host a two day seminar for accountants:
He offered to present the highlights at the next BnB monthly dinner..
I’d like to conclude today’s blog with a photo of Wilf:
Have a great Sunday. Stay warm. Eat some cake.

Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Very splendid blog thanks. Also happy birthday to Izzie! A special one I believe. It is also my daughter Miranda’s birthday today. Happy birthday to her and here’s hoping she’ll take up swimming soon. The jimbles should leave already

Spectacular blog of a very chilly but invigorating swim Rainer! I went straight to Coogee after our swim and the conditions there were awful. It made me really appreciate our beautiful bay even more. Even if the jimbles are still hanging around

You wild and crazy Guys ‘n’ Gals !
Cold water and stingers…… who could resist ?
Ed’s boys said they don’t know what he’d have done without the warm embrace of the B&B group …… so that should warm the cockles of your large hearts.
I have kidnapped Wilf, he will soon be esconced up near the other Shelley Beach ….. now, who’s next ??
