23/07/2012 – Marvellously Messy

23/07/201212

64 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

Another great swim in different conditions yet again.

It always starts the same, with the march of the pink caps

This morning saw everyone who chose, a free ride out to the point on the escalator.  If you timed it right and floated in the rip you didn’t even need to swim, you just got whisked straight out before you knew it.

Some of us don’t need that kind of adrenalin kick start to our day, so we took the sedate and pleasant option of half way beach, with no rips or waves, just plain beautiful.

Is that a seal to Krystyna’s left… oh no, just some kind of hyper-flexible pre-swim side kick.

Nothing like good ole winter mornings for an excuse to share some body heat… oh, but it wasn’t actually cold.  Oh well who needs an excuse anyway !

The surf swimmers came back in with excited reports that the rip was wide, making it a tough slog back to the beach, others said it was marvellously messy 🙂  It must have been too as there were hardly any surfers out this morning.

Regardless of the conditions, it’s always fabulous for us and we all feel pretty virtuous about having done our morning swims

but… walking on water… seriously !?!

In winter badge speak, today is the start of another new week of winter, week 9 to be precise, which means including this week there’s only 6 weeks and 39 days of winter left to go !!!

64 swimmers have already qualified for their winter badge so far !  With another 230 on target and another 228 who need to swim soon to make sure they don’t miss out… Thanks to Magnus our amazing tracking system tells you exactly how you’re going.  To check out who’s who in the winter zoo and how you’re tracking click here

The Weekend Magazine of Sydney Morning Herald are currently doing a article on the huge benefit group activities have on the individuals taking part.  And surprise surprise they have chosen Bold & Beautiful as one of their fabulous examples.   Our very own Anna Alvsdotter kindly agreed to speak with the journalist to share her individual story of how much B&B has been of tremendous support to her.

As part of this story SMH have a camera man coming down this Wednesday morning to photograph Anna with us all.  So please make a special effort to swim on Wednesday if you can and please arrive 10 minutes early to give the camera man an opportunity to get some fabulous pre-swim shots of us all together.  Thank you !!

Plus some great photos below just in from Simon, including one of himself along with the other 4 swimmers who all enjoyed a double lap.

That second photo down is a GREAT shot of ‘the rip’. You can see the different colour of the water, no white water on top, the U shaped discontinuity in the break and the different surface.
A couple of swimmers are a little bit too far south and would have had a much harder time getting out than those right in the rip. Worth looking at eh??
Congratulations to Paige, who was a wee bit nervous, but picked the low rise between the sets and also got right into the rip this morning! She went out so fast with Fiona, I could hardly keep up with her.
    Well done Paige!

Thanks Michael (and Fiona) for watching out for me! I’ve been a bit anxious since my tough day a few weeks ago but I’ll get there!

Paige, I started out, but a ‘messy’ wave took one of my zogg fins and I’m sure that lovely rip in pic 2 swept it out to sea in no time…. so I went round to Half Way as not used to swimming in the waves with one fin!
If anyone finds a US size 5-6 zogg finn, its partner is looking lonely:-(
Lovely warm water….. just hope it stays that way a little longer…

HUNDREDS of tiny bluebottles on Manly Cove beach this afternoon – I hope this is not a sign of things to come tomorrow, though unlikely without a NE wind. I am sure they are just as nasty as their big brothers. I popped as many as I could – great fun!
