23/05/2012 – Calm, Flat & Totally Divine

23/05/201212

Over 122 Bold & Beautiful swimmers.

Enjoy yet another spectacular morning at lake Manly… check out how calm the sea is for as far as the eye can see !!  Not a bad sunrise either…

Whilst it does feel a little fresh as you first get in it’s definitely worth it, the water is really still quite warm and seriously, you’re about to the swim in the world’s best aquarium, so there is lots to be excited about…

Whilst I didn’t feel it personally there must have been a strong current at the point this morning… 😉

It was another outstandingly magical swim with sooo much to see including the giant cuttlefish which was flashing blue (apparently) 🙂

Check out this little guy who was practicing his slalom swimming amongst the seaweed.

The scuba divers were out early this morning too.

Lori was enjoying floating off the point whilst Ted ran aground and Liz got creative with her goggles, as the strap broke she used her cap to hold them on 😉

Sadly Liz only has a few morning swims with us as she is heading back to Ireland the weekend after next 🙁

15 swimmers enjoyed the early pre-dawn lap at 6.30 and 5 continued on for a double.

If you’ve noticed these ‘balls on a stick’ throughout the bay and wondered what they are, they record the tagged dusky’s and wobby’s etc… as they swim within a certain radius of each one, helping the authorities to learn more about their activities.  Cool hey 🙂

For those of you who were swimming with us in March this year you will remember the amazing B&B cake that Neil from Peekaboo party cakes made for us for our summer badge ceremony…

Well, check this out, you can have one of Neil’s amazing cupcakes for only $1 on Cupcake Saturday which is the last Saturday of every month starting this Saturday 10.00am-2.00pm !!  To learn more check out Neil’s blog here

Another spectacular morning again! Sky was wonderful at 6:15, too bad i did not take any photo.
Iain and I swam to QC and saw an eagle ray as well as some big crabs (the size of my hand), not sure what they are. We followed the shore and swam the whole way in 1 metre of water depth or so, it was a very cool experience!
Don’t miss out tomorrow morning as it is going to be spectacular again, Friday morning will definitely be not that welcoming anymore according to MagisSeaweed!
btw Jules, I reckon we should tag every B&B swimmer this way you will only need to collect the data from the “balls on a stick” rather than spending lots of time with the tick sheets 🙂

Awesome idea! Jane, as a highly experienced vet, has offered to do the implanting of tags for us before but we haven’t had the technology to do the tracking. You’re a genius Gaetan 🙂

Great fish pics as usual Jules. 3rd. little sweetie is a Bengal Sergeant (well, it’s got tiger-stripes, see!), aka Narrow-Banded Sergeant Major. I love its scientific name: Abudefduf bengalensis.
