23/04/2012 – Shark Bait!

23/04/201214

Over 42 Bold and Beautiful Swimmers + 1 shark!

Some of the earlier swimmers returning….

Some personal bests were no doubt swum today due to the fact that there was an early spotting off the Point of a shark! Various reports were circulating..(great whites, tigers etc), but it appears to be confirmed by some our own swimmers (one of them Derek) who went in for an early swim and some of the Old and Bold!

Here’s Derek with the full story – though Ian doesn’t look too convinced and I notice Derek needs glasses?!? Apparently it was big, black and was eating fish… the shark ..not Derek!

I checked with the lifeguard and he said yes a shark alert went out earlier, I think around 6.30am.

Five brave souls went in from the beach – see below..Gulp!

The rest of us went in at halfway.

No photos were taken of the swim because I wasn’t stopping!!

But the brave souls made it!!! As did the rest of us …YAYYY!

Back at half way some of us got out faster than usual, and one didn’t make it!! No, no that’s just Nick trying to get his fins off! 😉

And here are some of the braver ones who also returned to the beach – the Rocky theme comes to mind! da da daaaaa, da da derrrrrr

Another fun successful swim!

Special thanks to John Kelly and Ian Forster for keeping things going whilst Jules is away.

Just another reminder that a SPECIAL B&B ANZAC CEREMONY SWIM will occur this Wednesday 25th April at the daily time of 7am.  As always we’ll set off from Manly at 7am, gather at the point together before continuing on to Shelly Beach where Greg McDonagh will play the Last Post on the Trumpet and Bruce Baird will read the Ode.  This is a continuing B&B tradition which is a lovely tribute and a wonderful atmosphere so please come down and join in.

Yes, a rock-hugging swim from Half-Way for most of us who listened to Derek…..
Which of the seriously Bold & Beautiful said: “At my stage of life, it’s ‘hello shark, good-bye nursing home!’ “?

Strange that a Polly and a Pharmacist were amongst the ‘brave’ who ventured out past where the shark was spotted! (You’d have thought they had more sense!)
Another great blog Lesley! I have got a photo of Mr Football, I mean Mr Kelly, fully dressed after the swim too! (How does he manage not to get wet patches on his clothes?)

I think our unwelcome visitor may have been a rare dolphin shark.

Ha ha ha, what an adventure, shame I can’t do Monday mornings now that Easter break is over.
Well done with the blog and making me LOL yet again. Thanks Mr Football, Mr Forster and Ms Funnybone Coulter. Highly entertaining!

Couldn’t agree more except think I was swimming over the rocks…for me previously thought it might not be such a bad way to go (relatively quick/no endurance suffering, no funeral burdens on family, recycled and certainly cost effective with this GFC thing). But seeing a fin so close, whatever it was, made me forget those positives. Don’t think Ive caught a wave that quick on the board…same for Christine from B&O….

With all of today’s excitement, is anybody up for a 6.30am swim tomorrow?
I’ll be at the club waiting, and hopefully there will be no man munching sharks or messy surf??!! 🙂

I think that might have been the lovely Sybil, or one of the Cronulla b and b’s
