Morning swimmers! 29 newbies turned up today, a little bit of a swell and mini waves made for a fun swim. But did you know, we haven’t always been allowed to swim when the sun is up?

In 1903, the ban was lifted. Before that time it was illegal to swim in the surf during daylight hours! Annie can’t believe it, she’s made it here after a night at the Boatshed and not being allowed to swim?!? Devasted!

Just imagine if we were restricted from swimming at 7am?! These happy people below would no longer be smiling

Luckily the restrictions were lifted and finally people could swim all day long. BUT, only if they were wearing a neck to knee costume. In 1903, these people would be allowed….

Nice neck to knee going on there ladies

In the same period, swimming areas were segregated And men and women swimming at the same time was a definite no no.

Luckily these days we can swim as a big group.

The men alongside …..

The long (knee to neck) costumes were so heavy, they led to lots of drownings 🙁 . Again these rules were looked at and revised and newer shorter costumes were allowed.
Today, our men folk show off their ‘shorter costumes’. Here’s Mr Licorice Allsorts.

Then some ameteur blog tarts
*check out top right hand corner

Finally, Lesley’s countless hours flirting have paid off.

We’re in the news….in case you missed this weeks photo tarting opportunity, here’s the story in the Manly Daily about our upcoming birthday on 27 December.

B&B’ers sort of on tour ….
I’m not overly sure if these two B&B’ers were going for a swim or accosting Gareth last weekend? Either way, Gareth looks happy that these two brightened up his shift!

Summer badge swims are go!!
Every Saturday during summer there will be a 6km swim – usual route is to Freshwater and back, then once a month a 10km swim. Route depends on conditions that day so it is a good idea to arrive a little early to have a briefing from Squadron Leader John ‘007’ Bond. The next 10km swim to be held on 11 January depending on conditions.
Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Just had a great laugh!
Conditions were so perfect when I looked out that Jon & I couldn’t resist heading North and as a result we just missed all that great blog-tarting and Tart-bombing at Shelly!
Love the different fashions and the theme in general. Sign off pics of Gareth, Sky & Corninne and yourself are classics!
And Lesley, yeh, yeh, we know it’s just about the swimming for you;-))

I love my neck-to-knee bathers. And I loved Sharon’s parade of fashionable swimwear for men, all those swirls and colours!

Great blog Snorks. A visual feast!
Did you know that nude swimming was frowned upon in Manly until as recently as 2008? Fact.
