A marathon of a day …..Sunday! Whilst some our swimmers are running around the CBD. Good luck to you all. We’re enjoying a pleasant swim.
The race master gave his orders, preaching to the converted but reminding us of the location of the actual start line.
The paparazzi joined us at the start line today.
Stephen captured the photographers.
Photographing who?
The photographers were here capturing a pic of this guy…not sure why? Is he famous?
This man is trying to offload his pink caps to anyone wanting one. LSA would sell them on for a small fee.
The race is nearly starting. Those with a slower stroke are allowed to join the inclusive friendly group ‘The 6:59’ers’. Here they are today en masse.
To the Point we head!
At the start line it’s getting crowded. This telegraph pole is The Point. Remember what JK said today *actual recording alert* ‘eh bay gum, if you can’t see ye surf club, then ya gone too far’. Which roughly translated means …..’Wait at The Point, the real point’.
I spotted a PJ swimming …
…and this rare fish. Jane can you ask OzMus what this is? I can’t quite make it out? Is it the ‘Biggus bubblus’ Perhaps?
Look at this guy sprinting to Shelly!
I also spotted this phenomenon at Shelly beach. A rare sighting, I think you’d agree.
At the half way drink station, everyone’s having a stretch. Simon’s trying the hands-on-the-hip-and-thrust approach (good for the hip flexors)
Or the stretching-the-lats one.
Quite simply the folded-arms-to-keep-warm stretch is a firm favourite at Shelly.
Or the breathe-warm-air-into-my-hands-to-try-to-keep-myself-a-little-warmer-than-the-air technique.
Not long to the finish line, lets see those last minute attempts at getting first place.
The fish were a little shy today (or I just didn’t see much!)
Today (in an hours time!) join James Pittar (the blind marathon swimmer) on a swim from Shelly beach to North Steyne!!! He will be swimming from Long Reef and is expected into Shelly around 11.30am. Once he arrives there we jump in with him and continue up to North Steyne Surf Club. Where there will be a delicious BBQ and refreshments!
James is raising money for the Fred Hollows Foundations
A big group of Bold and Beautiful swimmers joined him last year so let’s do it again this year!

Splendid blog Snorks.
Great underwater action shot of that guy sprinting to Shelly. He looks like a real athlete. And check out his textbook stroke! Inspiring..
Let me take a stab at the ‘guess the butt’ comp. Is it Lesley?

Really lucky I chose that pic of that swimmer, the stroke before was a concern. I’ve sent it to Sarah Ann for comment as I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen anything like that before.
As for the guess the butt …wow! I think you are getting warmer.

I’ve been insulted by experts, no use you Blog Chicky Babes trying. My “Wounded Fish” swimming stroke is a private matter between me and the Marine life of our lovely park, not the noisy 7 o’clock pod of mammals. here are 9 billion cups of coffee drunk daily in the world, are you doing your share ? My conscience is clear.

Great blog after a cracker of a swim, although it was a bit nippy for those of us sans neoprene.
Good to see the mystery backside back in the water this morning – must’ve heard that he’d slipped from the number one slot on the Pacific Challenge and made a trip back to Sydney to try to rectify the situation!

That’s harsh that I’m not allowed to play snorkels !
Looks like you’ve turned on nicer conditions for Michael than you guys did for me !! What’s with that ?? 😉

After my 6 am swim, and ubiquitous coffee, I went to the city to cheer on a mate in the Marathon and met Brendan after his half marathon, well done ! I helped Rob & Emer encourage everyone who ran past. Emer had just done a training run of 32kms this morning ! Well done Emer. Kurt Fearnley won the Wheelchair marathon but has tested positive for WD40…… but that isn’t illegal.
