Everything is a wave, a frequency. The universe is music, and you are a symphony.
Your spine, the oldest part of your central nerve system, contains foundational neural networks that are constantly firing patterns of signature frequencies. This music provides rhythms that allow your heartbeat, your breathing and basic movement including walking and swimming.
Clarity of these patterns is actually a clinical indicator of health and longevity, a life being well lived. But these central patterns are constantly assailed by our environment. Not only the unnatural modern world around us, but also by our internal environment, our worrisome thoughts and habitual anxieties. This causes interference or ‘static’ in our natural rhythms.
Rhythmic physical activities, such as pranayama breathing, walking, and swimming help bring our rhythms to the fore, reducing the static so our physiology begins to hear itself again with ease.
The sensation you feel upon completion of your morning swim is who you actually are. That blissful moment is the soundtrack to your life, the waves through which you exist in this world.

Gorgeous photos Andrew and thought provoking words. I didn’t swim today and my rhythms aren’t quite ‘to the fore’ (although the dog walk helped.) That first shot is stunning!

I like I e the idea that I am who I am after a swim because that is relaxed calm and happy. I will try using your blog to keep the feeling going for a longer part of the day. Your blog is a treasure.

Thanks Elizabeth,
This blog was actually inspired by research into how a person’s nerve system can reach a new level of ‘relaxed, calm and happy’ for a longer part of the day…
I’m a member of a group of practitioners who recently published research on the discovery of a new Central Pattern Generator in the human spine.
Instead of traditional manipulations we use precise sequences of gentle light skin contacts along the spine, specific to the indicated state of the person’s nerve system. These contacts trigger a wave along the patient’s spine which reduces retained stress and develops increased coherence in neural firing patterns.
For years we’ve seen evidence of this spinal wave occurring, along with remarkable improvements and have published studies on them. But there was a missing link in exactly HOW the developing spinal wave was involved in whole body health improvements. Or how we helped the nerve system ‘switch gears’ into a robust state of ease and wellbeing (the BnB Lovelies who have experienced this work will know what i’m talking about).
The practitioners in the U.S. who have been researching this with the University of Southern California discovered that the wave that occurs due to our work is the result of a central pattern generator that no one has ever seen before.
CPGs are usually involved in locomotion/breathing etc as mentioned in the blog, but this one seems to focus on creating coherence in the whole system…
(i.e. If you are a symphony, then this CPG is the conductor).
This emerging CPG dissolves habitual defensive physiology, allowing the individual’s nerve system to actually reorganise to a higher level of coherence and adaptable stability.
Which means higher levels of previously unattainable clarity and health. So your ‘relaxed, calm and happy’ can become the new normal…
