22/03/2015 can you fool only one?

22/03/201511

Yipee ….a Sunday swim in Autumn and a celebration of all those good sort who swam some incredible lengths over Summer.

A whopping 125 people qualified over summer for the 6km badge and 41 for the 10km. Well done to all of you!

We headed to Royal Far West to congratulate them all.

Lovely smiley morning.

Snap!

Best blog smile!

Are these two really smiling or are they grimaces?

The big news today, was the Big Reveal!

You can fool many some of the time, but only one (Rainer) ALL of the time” Shaun Denton 22 March 2015.

Apparently down at B&B Central, two regular swimmers have been competing and racing back from Shelly Beach after one (let’s call him Lips) called the other a Dugong (let’s call him Shaun or DWSS) in a slightly err not so complimentary way (when referring to his swim). I love dugongs, they should not be insulted this way!

Enter our characters – here Rainer, or as we known him Lips. This is a photo of him in one of his unassuming poses. A lovable quick witted German who had worked on his stroke correction, many, many, times. He loves getting in the blog, so much so, I had to give up some of my Sunday reporting to give him a turn sometimes – appearing and blogging, he loves it!

And here before his big race today.

Shaun, our other contender (affectionately also known as Jack Nicholson) here with his special go faster diet of seaweed, apparently reckons he has special powers and can whisper to dolphins. Hence his nickname “dolphin whisperer” or DWSS.

Sterling helping Shaun prepare for the final race today.

Shaun has challenged Lips to several races recently …..and appears to be winning more than losing!

Lips is perplexed………how can this happen?

Answer: The French Kick

The French kick is known by all B&B’ers, but not to our Lips.

Shaun has also been on a special diet of seaweed. It’s known for its go faster effect. Shaun has been sharing his tips with Lips and basically been winding him up about his improvement and the racing wins.

Lips in response to Shaun’s speed, has taken on extra coaching, discarded the rashie and tried to understand the French kick.

BUT Shaun has not been practising his swimming, but his running!

Jumping out of the water just after their ‘race’ starts and running to Half Way. Jumping in again and swimming in front of Lips to South Steyne.

The badge ceremony participants were here not only to get their badge, but the Big Reveal. How would Rainer react?

It was revealed to Lips that the races were all a hoax and 230 people knew about it also. Here’s how to fool Lips……

So Lips has believed that he is getting slower in the water, and he wasn’t.

Here’s a snap from the reveal.

To help members of the B&b keep on top of the antics, the Facebook page was set up. Racing Rainer, and plenty of tips included.

The FB page has now been made public and can you can access it here.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/657434121050241/

Until today, Rainer had no clue about it! It was a closed group that had 230 members all discussing the cheating that Shaun had taken part in and how to fool Rainer.

There has even been a film made about this frivolity!

Certificates were presented at the badge ceremony and Lips took a while to click that he had been the butt of one big joke!

He can spend the rest of the day running through the page. Enjoy Rainer.
P
There is even a clothing line.

Little Sarah even changed her flights to be at the big reveal!

It’s lovely to see, despite all of this they are still friends.

A couple of underwater shots to show we did swim today.
The eggs are still there.

Is this a Blind Shark ? He / she was nearly black in colour and really keen to hide from us all.

Jelly fish!

….and finally lovely to see new mum Lucy in the water, and Brad pushing Millie (after swimming with the 6:30 group) around to see her at Shelly.

Whitewater Dinner

Whitewater restaurant has offered B&B members a 25% discount on its Thursday nightWine Dinner. See below for details. Mention B&B when you book.

    Haha great blog Snorks.
Congratulations to all the badge recipients, awesome effort.
    Today’s stats were extra special.
In fairness, no one stipulated it was strictly a swimming race.
Thank you Lippy for being such a sport.
Thank you to all those who have contributed to the propaganda with special mention to
Snorks who suggested we look at a special diet
Woodsy and Sarah who together, we came up with the French Kick
Snorks, you forgot to mention the Racing Rainer coffee cups, fridge magnets and children’s toys.

A special thank you to the hundreds of swimmers who kept a tight lip as to the goings on.

Great blog Snorkles. I’m sure Rainer will be thankful to you for making him speedier DWSS. If you want to keep the DWSSBFTR tag you’ll have to do a proper race watched by us all. Good underwater photos for such a choppy swim Snorks. Yes I saw the cuttlefish too!

It was very choppy today. I am grateful for the blog photos as it was all I could to just swim to and fro and did not see much.

    Oh Shaun! Well played..
Have to admit, I’m still confused as to what is real. Was your chest hair real? Lucy having a baby? Rusty’s tight pants? It’s all a haze.. my head’s still spinning.
Off for another stroke correction session with Swedish Sarah now. Too late to cancel. What a waste of time!!!

Well, I think you getting faster after having stroke correction classes is V impressive. I have been attending classes and workshops and carefully studying youtube to improve. Instead I am just getting slower. Soon I will be swimming backwards with my freestyle. Leave the racing to those people on Thursdays
