21/09/2012 – Warming Up

21/09/20128

116 Bold & Beautiful swimmers

A fantastic turnout for an overcast Friday 🙂

Simon’s excited… it’s warm enough for him to get in the water, unlike Lorne on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria where he has just returned from some exciting road cycling race… and didn’t even get his toes wet 😉

The water’s beautiful here, Ted for one couldn’t wait to get out there as he powered through the waves

There was a lovely glow on the horizon as we gathered at the point

and whilst the sun didn’t shine on us this morning the smiles always do 🙂

Another superb swim, well worth getting out of bed for 🙂

~12 swimmers enjoyed an early 6.30am lap into Shelly, ~another 4 headed North up to Queensie and ~6 continued on after the regular swim for a double lap of Shelly.

Welcome back to Sophie Coombes today, it’s her first swim after the birth of her third child, only 4 weeks ago, beautiful baby Lily 🙂

The sneaky surprise Maureen and my mother were concocting was a special personalised B&B cap !!  I love it, thank you very much 🙂 xx

Thanks to the very generous support of The Steyne Hotel I am excited to confirm that we will be hosting a B&B fundraiser as a Dinner & Trivia Night there on Tuesday 23rd October from 6.30pm !!

200 Tickets will go on sale this weekend, and trivia teams will be in tables of 10.

Our very own John Kelly has kindly agreed to be our trivia master again for the night and some fantastic prizes have started flowing in already, so get your teams together, think of a theme and get ready to buy your tickets this weekend.  It will be a great, fun night together 🙂

Other B&B social occasions coming up:

  • Next monthly B&B special $20 Bluewater dinner is this coming Monday,
24th September at 6.30pm.  Bookings are essential so please book in here asap
  • October’s monthly happy hour drinks and nibbles at Murray’s is on Wed 10th Oct, so please rsvp here and come and join in the fun

Collie finally, after 2 weeks of waiting has got a window to swim the English Channel SOLO.  His first stroke is expected to be 1pm today our time, that’s 4am in Dover !  May the tide be with you Collie, we are all there surrounding you with support and will to complete every stroke needed to touch French soil.  Go you good thing, we know you can do it xxx

Denise has sent an on tour update from La Maddelena off coast of Sardinia where the water is a beautiful 24 degrees.  It will be a little different when she hits Dover in a couple of days time as she waits for her window to swim the English Channel as part of a team.  Maybe their team will go on the same day as our other Solo swimmer Ben, that would be exciting.

A reminder that it would be great if as many of you as possible could support James Pittar’s in his swim this coming Sunday.  Please come down to Shelly
Beach at 11am and swim up to Queensie and back to North
Steyne with James to support him in the last 2km of his 20km solo swim
down from Collaroy which he is doing to raise funds for the Fred Hollows Association.
James is blind himself and is completing this swim to raise money to support other blind people.  James would dearly love to have a sea of pink
B&B caps following him for the last 2km, so please come if you can.  You’re welcome to join in
the BBQ at the end too 🙂

Water Temperature 17.2
Air Temperature 14.0
Sunrise 5.46am
Sunset 5.51pm
Low Tide: 5.29am
High Tide: 12.00pm

Whilst we would love to send you photos the 430am swim this morning in Dover harbour was quite pleasant in a dark, muddy, eerie kind of way. Love to all!

    Hi James and collie,
In Paris at present, and for a while yet. Can’t quite see you yet but can see the splash if I squint real hard.
Am Thinking of you and wishing you well.
May the tides be with you!
