21/08/2013 – Cold but perfect!!

21/08/201319

91 Bold and Beautiful swimmers on ANOTHER spectacular morning’s swim!

We measured the water temp in various locations this morning and what a difference!

The edge of the water was:  15.7

The Point:  17.2

Shelly Beach:  16.3

An ‘ordinary’ photo can look quite different when you zoom in…

See? 😀

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Again ‘just a’ photo of the seabed…..

but look closer,  it’s a wobbegong! …he didn’t look too happy…

No need to zoom in on this pic more like zoom right out to capture everyone at the so called “Point”!!

The salps are back!!!

I was busy taking some underwater shots of Jill for a competition…

When the newest and possibly worst blog tart of them all jumps in!! 😀

It was sooo cold I couldn’t get many marine life shots…but here are some yellow tails…high tailing it!

It looks like summer!

Spot the salp!

Super clear!

Again…’ordinary’ photo…(well not really that ordinary!)…

zoom in and voila…..  Noice!

Another Tip Top Swim!!!

Bye for now Lesbubs!

nice blog Lesley. I really like the one of the legs. Are they your legs? What are the salps? I’ve never seen them before.

Fascinating blog, very interesting regarding the varying temperatures. How/where do you transport the thermometer?

Fascinating blog. Very interesting regarding the different temperatures. How/where do you transport the thermometer to ensure it is not unnecessarily heated?

Ooh I can’t remember what salps exactly are…Jane??
    They’re like a cross between fish eggs/ plankton/ jellyfish!!
    Hehe yep my legs 😉

Great blog Lesbubbs. Fantastic photos and photography, love the zoom ins and speech bubbles. Nice to see Stephen getting an ‘up the clacker’ shot! Salps probably are great fish food for the bigger fish so will keep the marine life coming! See you all tomorrow 🙂

    Funny blog again Lesbubs!
I’m sat at my desk laughing at your comedy speech bubbles and close up’s!
Cheeky ‘up-skirt’ of Stephen at the end.
There were so many ‘salps’ today, I’m pretty such they aided my buoyancy!
So clear, so much marine life – it was like swimming in a massive aquarium!
    That big wobby was good.

    Great blog Lesbubs
I had been swimming for 12 months with the b and b and looking at the photos on the website I was questioning if they were real and when is the water EVER that clear. Well today it is.
The water is unbelievably clear as the photos show.
(I am finding it difficult trying not to comment on how good the legs look in photo 17.
    So, I won’t, – no comment)

Great pics that illustrate just how clear the water is.
Saw that wobbegong near the point and schools of fish. Like swimming in an aquarium. An enjoyable swim.

Can we put a long diving board out over the point so that we can skip going in at the edge and get straight to the point? Have long suspected it is warmer at the point. And it does indeed look perfect out there.

Great blog Lesbubs: I’m not so sure I like those salp though, I’m sure I swallowed a few for breakfast during the swim this morning.

I’m reliably informed they are nutritious and full of good protein Ros..
Great blog Bubbles! What a trooper you are, showing up for blog duty despite obvious cold and flu symptoms! 🙂

Hmm! We evidently swam with a tagged great white yesterday! He was off Leighton at 7.10am and so were we! He set off the alarm again today but was next beach up. I think I probably deserve some sort of badge for that!

They are very strange (I think) organisms (Family Salpidae) that reproduce to form long chains of tiny individuals that later separate. When we see them in CTB they are often in huge swarms of chains that we feel as soft jelly-like particles as we swim through them. One of our talented photographers got some beautiful photos of them last year – I’ll try and find them.
