123 Bold & Beautiful swimmers enjoyed a fantastic swim and swam like there is no tomorrow! ( According to the Mayan calendar the world ends tomorrow on 21st December!) If you couldn’t make it this morning you have another chance to have the swim of your life tonight at 8pm!15 Bolderdash at staggered times. Joe and Dom Bond swam to South Curly and back for Joe’s birthday. They left before 5.30am.Happy birthday to Joe Harvey today ! Michael Christie’s birthday tomorrow…!!Water Temperature 20.6Air Temperature 20.0Sunrise 5.40amSunset 8.04pmHigh Tide: 2.44amLow Tide: 9.14pmTo read Michael’s tips on how to stay safe in the surf please click here
Another great start to a day in paradise with amazing cloud formations in the sky as the sun tried to peek through. The Bolderdash/crawl was a bit staggered again starting at 5.35am with the incredibly brave Little Sarah off to do her 31.5th kilometre swim of the week!
Manly panorama just before the drama begins…And the inspiring Little Sarah, Jon and Simon.

Here’s one for Lesley, nurses and ladies everywhere! These hunks were off to do the Bolderdash and dash they do!

Another early morning shot of our favourite corner of the world just before the 7am swim taken from Reddall Street, always an amazing view. And one of us stepping out…

One of Stephen Coulter’s lovely watercolour shots of us going in…

There are a few waves as we venture in but most go from Manly with a few choosing Halfway.
Greg Mc Donaugh’s smile always makes my day!

More beaming smiles from Sue and Jenny.

And the Half Ironman has returned from Canberra and is ready for more B&B. Getting advice from Michael. (Probably telling him to ‘htfu!)

I get out at Halfway as have forgotten Blog Fins and can’t keep up and get a lovely shot of you at Shelly, followed by Stephen’s arty one.

Visibility wasn’t so good today as you can see with this underwater shot. Guess who these tarty creatures are.

The waves were exciting coming back in and if you waited btween sets not too scary. Great seeing peoples faces as they tried to catch them!

Well done Attracta!

A lot of swimmers did get stung today by blueys. Most copped it very well though and some even seemed quite proud of their battle scar. Poor Anne E kissed one, on the Bolderdash though, so we do wish her a speedy recovery and hope she doesn’t get lips like Rainer! Poor Vicky, our generous pink cap donater got a bad sting but still smiles…

John 007 didn’t do a double today and Sparkles is sparkling as usual.

Has anyone noticed how some swimmers, ladies usually, are slowly disappearing as the weeks progress. Anna and Fiona have been burning up the calories and are looking pretty hot!

Sorry no shots of marine life today. A few fish like luderick, grouper and wrasse were spotted on the way out. Snorkles saw a wobbegong and Steve saw sharks ‘this big’. I assured him he was very lucky and they would have been our friendly dusky whalers.

Hope you like my cartoons this week!

Hope you like the cartoon I found below. I really think someone should tell these guys to come try our swims and Bluewater Cafe afterwards!

Can’t get enough of the B&B? Fear not, with the help of our swimming friends we have once again produced

I’m curious – Rainer “Lips I” was NOT in pain when his lips were jimbled BUT when Ann E “Lips II” was blue bottled she was in considerable pain! How come??
Ann E hope you recover quickly!!!
I love your cartoons Elaine!! What are those PUFFs coming out of Ted’s underarms?!?!?!

Amazing photography, Laney Loo – you captured the changing sky and cloud patterns beautifully. Love the shot with Attracta and your cartoons:-)
Special best wishes to Ann E, Simon C and all those who copped the most painful blueys today. Time for a change in wind direction!
Have a great swim this evening!

Here is an update on Anne Edwards who was stung in the mouth by a blue bottle this morning early. Her mouth and tongue became severely swollen and her distress such that she was taken to Casualty at Manly Hospital by Jalna where she received the full treatment for a severe allergic reaction. She’s miles better, though still tender and should be discharged home shortly. It’s a bit sobering when something like that happens on a lovely day when you’re enjoying a simple pleasure. Take care.

Rainer’s was a Jimble if you remember and Anne copped a very severe sting from a large Bluebottle. Her tongue was quite swollen as were her lips.

I’m not an expert, but I believe part of it might be down to the fact that i was ‘jimbled’ while poor Anne was ‘bluebottled’…
Really hope she’s recovering well. I feel there’s an invisible bond between people who got ‘jellied’ on their lips.

Great cartoons Lainey-Loo, I loved the shark’s performance anxiety. Brilliant.
Get well soon Anne E, and look on the bright side: some people pay a fortune for a trout-pout 🙂

Poor Anne. Sorry, didn’t mean to make light of bluebottles. Get better soon Anne, Vicky, Simon and other Bluey Catchers.
The ‘puffs’ under Ted’s arms are supposed to be flowers, as LSA always says he has ‘blossomed’ with this group! Sorry your ‘looking at the calendar’ shots didn’t make it to the final cut Lesley!
Nervously looking forward to this evening. Hope lots of you come and give it a go!

And L-L, while I’m thinking about it I might need to book myself on to some ‘sensitive-new-age-guy’ training. Shortly after I slapped your bum this morning, I commented on Susie’s ‘nice rack’. What I should have said was, respectively: ‘Good morning Elaine’, and ‘Hi Susie, that top suits you’.

Another great blog Lainey-Loo…as always I just LOVE your cartoons..I show everyone these…you are so creative. Sorry it was my fault for not bringing Blog Shoes this morning…a sleep-in was much needed. And very sorry to hear about Anne E joining the jellied lips gang…its not a fun group to be in I hear….
Well done LSA..is there any stopping her?!
See you all tonight! (with anti-shark repellent)

Alyson, I’m thinking of having a rest from Bluey Bolderdashes tomorrow morning, so may just do the 7.00. How about you? Jon & Rainer definitely taking the more restful option too…

Excuse me Annie, there is a lot of fun to be had in the jelly lip gang. Once the initial swelling / pain are gone that is.
Virgin lips would never understand. But it’s an exclusive club to be a member of. Unlike those whale swimmers. Every man and his dog has swum with a whale these days. And dont even get me started on the dolphin gang.. the Manly version of trainspotting!!

Thank you for all the good wishes! I’ve come good and am finally home at around 3pm – still pouting or maybe looking a bit more like the Joker.
Special thanks to many of you. So comforting to be with such a caring group. Pippa, Susie, Mark and Shaun were there when it happened and helped pick off the blue bits. Mark, who had just been hit severely himself under his arm, swam in with me at North Steyne and walked back to the surf club. Not a lot of small talk along the way since my yapper wasn’t working too well. Thanks for the 20 cent pieces and getting me into the hot shower and collecting my gear, Michael C, Jenny K, Jalna and Jenny H. Thank you for your concern and advice, Alex. P. Jalna, so grateful you brought me to the hospital and translated at reception since it’s hard to make yourself clear with a mouthful of tongue! Thank you for the calls and visits at casualty, Michael C, Jenny H and James G and, Julie, I know you were orchestrating behind the scenes. Oh, and Elaine, thank you for being so considerate and asking if I wanted a photo – which I didn’t. If I was at the Oscars, the music would be getting real loud at this stage.
But a very big thanks to staff at Manly Hospital Emergency. They tell me that B&B is keeping them busy with about a visit a week and they all know about us. One of the doctors, John Jackson, swims with us; Sharon just joined us in the last few weeks; I was pushing Hayley to come along since she’s only a front-of-the-surf-club swimmer who watches us with wishful thinking. The staff loaded me up with a couple of big shots of adrenaline to reduce the swelling in my face, lips, tongue and throat. Added some serious anti-inflammatory, anti-histamine and a bit of painkiller and then kept me under observation for half the day until they were satisfied there would not be a flare-up.
Now writing this and able to glimpse the edges of my lips without looking down, I notice that I’m feeling a bit petulant and prima donna-ish. And, Rainer, you got nothing, dude!
See you next swim!

er…hang on…you had Dr John!!!! you said it so casually – do you realise who he is!??! hahahaha
Glad you are better Anne… it looked so painful – unlike Rainer “Lips I” – which just looked hilarious! You will be known now as “Lips II formerly Anne E” 😀

Get well soon Anne E Botox. Certainly looked nasty this morning before you shot off.
I ended up wearing the same blue bottle around my chest as soon as you swam off.
I have not been wrapped in something as bright fluorescent blue since the centre of a blue light disco in the 70’s.
Great to hear you made it home safe after all of that.
eeks.

Anne so glad you are home and feeling better, it was quite a sting.
Try to remember that bluebottles are not a sashimi delicacy and should not be snacked on mid swim.
Rainer, you have definitely been ecLIPSed by Anne, you will have to hand over the title.
ecLIPSed definition:
to make less outstanding or important by comparison; surpass 😉
Hope to see you back soon Anne…..but could you wait till I get past you on the PC ?
