We must be having record numbers of Winter swimmers at the moment, a lot of us spurred on by the challenge of doing 20 swims in Winter and getting our Winter badge! 106 bold swimmers rocked up today on a cold, gloomy morning. Rusty is excited to be swimming, ‘Get out of bed and join us!’ he shouts!
It was a cold night, down to 9 degrees, but that didn’t deter 20 early-lappers. Here they are going out for ‘The Drinks Express’ in the dark before setting off to work.
Renae is trying out her flasher jacket for the first time, ‘I’m sooo hot right now,’ she says, a few swimmers (male) nod in agreement 😉
It’s 6.59am and Lips leads his ladies down the ramp. Little Sarah is back on Saturday and will be joining you!

Winter Solstice Nude Swim – Friday June 21
Last year, Alex, Brendan, Iain, James and a few more celebrated the Winter Solstice with a nude “ghost train” swim around 6:20am to Shelly and back. Rumour has it they will be back again this Friday morning. Reports from last year were that it was more enhancing for the girls than the boys!

I started swimming with this amazing group after meeting Jules Mackin and joining her on Australia Day 2011. I met Jules through CanToo, the amazing Program that trains people for an endurance event like an ocean swim or Half Marathon and in return participants raise money for cancer research. The Program always attracts a great group of people who want to do something worthwhile as well as getting fit and having fun. Morning swim. I believe it is a normal swim to the point, disrobe and swim to Shelly and back with costume on the shoulder.
I needed a clarification as I was going to ride my push bike down from Curly and was wondering where the disrobing point was.
