20/05/2014 – So very grateful (that typepad is finally working!!)

20/05/201412

Hanging out at the table of wisdom, the question was posed, “Why are there no pretentious swimmers in the B&B? Discuss, not too heatedly.”  What do you think?

Is it because we seize the day?

There is a proposition that people who enjoy natural beauty such as the sunrise, the company of others and regular exercise, are happier and more grateful for their lives.

How could you not feel thankful when there is the opportunity to do this every day!!

Ok some days there are big scary waves and nasty stinging things, but even these challenges – which we overcome with style and grace – just add to the enjoyment.

And the things we get to see really are breath taking.  Some are huge and exotic like the Cuttlefish.  While I didn’t spot it today, others report seeing cuttlefish off the point.  And just in case you have been under a rock and haven’t seen it on the blog before, this is what it looks like.

The number of Dusky Whalers is increasing and they are growing!!  One swimmer did report seeing 12 today.

Then there are just the usual regulars. Which, just like our regulars, are so wonderful to see every day.

And Winter is Coming!!

In just 11 swims the Winter Badge season kicks off.  And you know that means that to qualify you simply need 20 swims over 7 weeks in winter to receive the prized Cold & Bold Badge.  Also on Sunday 1 June, to mark the first winter swim, we will be hosting our own Biggest Morning Tea after the swim at the benches.  Another aspect of being grateful is to do something for others.  Funds from this morning tea will go to cancer research ‘cause you never know if you or someone you love will one day be a beneficiary of this work.  Onesie wearing is strongly encouraged.

Have a great day, and see you tomorrow.

Mary

How about a Wetpatch?

The eagle eyed among you will notice a new addition to the B&B website.  Wetpatch are makers of car seat protectors – perfect for the B&B swimmer on the go.  As this is a product best seen ‘in the flesh’ the makers will have a display after the swim on Sunday 25 May.  You will be able to purchase there and then and receive a B&B discount too!

The Biggest Morning Tea ever

Help B&B regular Miguel Maestre (aka the Crazy Bull) fight cancer this May and June, and make this year’s Biggest Morning Tea the biggest ever!  Please share his video or maybe even organise one with as many friends as possible.

B&B i-Log

Really if you haven’t been using the B&B i-Log then you must be new!!  Almost 75% of swimmers are now using the B&B i-Log. Log your swim ANYTIME of day using this really efficient and easy way to ensure your swim is recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge. To get started, send an email to Ian Forster ugoboyo@gmail.com (This is not a link so please copy and paste into your email). He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to get started.

Staying safe

We have had seen the return of some serious waves and rips this past week!  Were you prepared? Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly!  While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.  Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf.  To read, or even download, click here.

What a delightful blog Mary 🙂
Thanks to all the wonderful bloggers for donating their time -it’s always a lovely part of The Ritual to read the blog.
Why do Nick and John both have such mischievous looks on their faces in their photo?

Yes indeed you people who live somewhere near the beach are TRULY lucky! In the scheme of things, there is a small proportion of Sydney’s population living in these nice parts, compared to those of us who live out west. Truly blessed you are! Hope to see you all soon.

The B&B does certainly attract lovely people who don’t take this amazing experience for granted. Gorgeous blog, hope it didn’t take up all your day with Typepad not working. Hopefully it works for me tomorrow.

Maybe someone closer to Manly needs a house sitter in the school holidays and you could swim every day Margot. I’ll keep my eyes peeled. 🙂

On sat or Sunday….can someone shout cuttlefish if they see one? I’m fascinated and too distracted by floating and sunrise and well…just distracted.

    Great blog Mary. Like!!
    Definitely, “Seize the day”.
Psychologically, where else would you find solutions to life and work issues so easily? Don’t tell anyone.
Physically, it is never easy and it’s comforting to know a hundred other swimmers are also experiencing their own challenge.

Amy, do you take the scenic route closer to the wall side than the NZ side?
    That will increase your odds.
