19/7/13 – Storch and Rescue

19/07/201327

Another beautiful Manly morning with a bit of a surf today –

We knew we were in for a bit of a workout….

The new swimmers were welcomed with the usual disclaimers 🙂

There was a little bit of action under a surging sea… this PJ and a beautiful Wobbegong spotted by Anna with very good eyes!

Shelley saw the return of Duckie!

Paige was working on her portfolio…

The sightly rough conditions at halfway necessitated several Storch and rescue operations…

How lucky we are to have him..

Some rescues lasted several minutes….

Stats:
Swimmers: 129!
Newbies: 2!
Water: 18.5c

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Agree – love the Storch & rescue shots at the end!
(Snorkles, take note – Sarah B & I are behind Lips & Storchy without anyone coming to our aid because Lips & Helen were using up all Storch’s rescue resources:-))
The surf and choppy conditions were a bit of a shock today after so many days of glassy, calm swims. Love that we all look out for each other!

If you look closely it’s actually me rescuing Storchy in that second last picture. He was struggling in the shallows at halfway, so I decided to interrupt my usual swim back to the club and came to his rescue..
    You’re welcome John!

Love your work Nick! What a fun swim!
Helen, thanks for taking on the surf on your very first day back from holidays. Despite various people trying to talk you into joining halfway shuffle!

    oh FABULOUS.
Too much Sterch is never enough!!
And FYI Shauny actually performed a real rescue. He fished out Underpants man who was stuck in the break. Jen and I witnessed.

I just want everyone to know that John Storch is my hero today. He watched out for me in the surf and kept me calm and now I am even more (not-so-secretly) in love with him than ever! John, thanks for the relaxing swim to Shelley after my near-death (or at least it felt like it at the time) experience!

oK OK thats enough about Storchy – it’ll get to his head and he might start wearing bright coloured swim trunks to the swim…oh..he already has!
WOW out by 9am Nick! Golf on today??

Didnt need rescuing. but i tell you Fi
At one stage there i WAS the Hoff!
I looked identical to the bay watch star except
    2 foot shorter
    Follicularly challenged
    Not “quite” as trim.
    Wasn’t wearing the red budgies
A grey panda look to the chest hair
Didn’t have the torpedo surf club equipment
Couldn’t stride so it was more of a waddle
Apart from that – I WAS the Hoff!!

Fabulous pics, hilarious storyline and title. Bring on the ball….!

    No Lesbutt, you interrupted Paigey
It’s not as though Storchy has a big head or anything.
    Paigey, you were saying???

    19/07/2013 at 2:33 pm

    Well done Storchy,
I find it astonishing that Lips rescued you and even though you must have been relieved to have made it through, you still had the presence of mind to keep a watch out, see Helen in trouble, risk your life again for the rescue.
I am rather confused though, Helen’s rescue took a few minutes?
Normal protocol from our bronze training would see that rescue go for much longer??
I think we need to chat!
