After a night of wind and rain it is not surprising the crowd for today’s swim could best be described as intimate. Everyone was eager with the anticipation of taking on the elements.
Take it easy was the advice for today’s swim. The wild and wintry weather has stirred up the surf.
Tales from yesterday of one swimmer being washed onto the rocks and another being rescued were shared as a reminder that it is wise to take stock of your surf skills and choose an appropriate option – surf or half-way.
We were about equally divided setting out from B&B central. The waves always look fine from the shore. . .
Mind you, half-way has its own brand of fun.
Amazing light as we head off to Shelly.
And please don’t even imagine that it was possible to sight any marine life today! In fact, I barely made it to Shelly before Dave called the ‘Let’s go’ for the return.
On the walk back we were treated to a glorious rainbow, which also heralded more rain!!
Even the Cockatoos were staying close to the ground.
Do you remember RedFeb when we attempted to collectively swim around Australia to raise money for Heart Research? Well, it will be on again next year. Hear Research Australia is looking for a generous someone or organisation to sponsor the caps for approximately $500 – $600. If you are keen, please see Ian. Naturally recognition of the sponsors’ generosity will be acknowledged. . .
Now, if you’ve just a couple of swims to qualify for your Winter Badge, don’t let the weather put you off. There is always a sunny smile to make it all worth while.
Have a great day.
Mary
Winter Badge season – 233 already qualified.
There are 80 swimmers who can also qualify with just a couple more swims! Check out the stats from the attendance page. The badge ceremony is being held straight after the swim on 21 September at the Royal Far West.
B&B i-Log
Log your swim ANYTIME of day using the B&B i-Log. This is the best and easiest way to ensure your swims are recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge. To get started, send an email to Ian Forster ugoboyo@gmail.com (This is not a link so please copy and paste into your email). He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to set up your log in.
Staying safe
Are you prepared for the return of the surf? Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.
