19/02/13 – High chance of prevailing merriment

19/02/201321

Over the past month Tuesday swimmers have proved themselves
to be a robust mob.  Cyclones, high
swells and rain have not daunted us!
Today the 112 brave hearted B&B swimmers were rewarded for their
commitment.

With a smorgasbord of options to frolic – boulderdash, early
swim, regular swim and double – we are spoilt for choice.

Just look at this mob!
The 17 boulderdashers setting off about 6.15am in the pale dawn for the swim to Queenscliff .  Plus evidence that they
arrived!  Photos are courtesy of Nick.

Looks like a more natural solution to the lingering weed has been
found.  Or maybe the tractor broke down
(again).  Love how the seagulls have been
enlisted.  They are amazing!

Also amazing is Elaine.
Here she is reliving the Husky Triathlon (2 km swim, 82km cycle and 20km
run) to an awe struck audience.   Well done to everyone who participated.

Sharon and Stephen who participated in the weekend event of
a less strenuous variety (900metre Sydney Skinny) proudly display their
spoils.

With a light nor’
easterly blowing yesterday there was some concern that BB would be around.  Not this lovely BB. . .

but this one!!!

With reports of zero bluey sightings from the early lappers there were happy smiles all around 🙂

So you know the drill – down to the water, get wet, avoid
floating weed, find traffic cone and head to the point.

Although the visibility was a little less clear today, it was a perfect swim over to Shelly.

And that is where the frolicking
started!!

Check out these clowns!
Fake lips. . .

And despite Ted’s superb ‘let’s go’, there were a huge bunch
that stayed.

The excitement was created
by a wobbegong that was doing its best to pretend we were not there.   Despite
its best efforts to blend into the sand to remain invisible, it didn’t count on
Stephen poking it in the tail.  These
beautiful photos are courtesy of Stephen.

There were heaps
of fish (technical term that one).   No
wonder the return swim took so long – there is just too much to see.

Don’t miss . . .

This Saturday is the last opportunity to pick up a 6km or a
10km summer badge!  Picking up a summer
badge is dominating the morning chatter – so find space on your B&B hoodie and
commit to the swim.  With a big turn up expected
there will be someone to buddy-up with irrespective of your pace.   The badge ceremony will be held in ‘about a
month’ so keep and eye of the blog for the date.  I can tell you it will be a Sunday after the
regular swim.

Just through from Jules (remember her. . .) are NEW water safety tips!!!  Michael’s
tips remain valid but this updated guide
is courtesy of champion Ironman Craig ‘Riddo’ Riddington.  He has put this RIP/ Surf swim education
document together for the B&B and it’s a good read.  To read and even download click here.

Another magic
day.  Great to share it with you.

Catch you next Tuesday!

Mary

007: do you think the 10km will be in the harbour this weekend?

Agree Lesbutt. Did you notice how Snorks and Anna had a very similar pinkish hue in those Sydney Skinny shots? Coincidence?

    Great blog Mary!
The variety of fish is stunning this week. It did indeed feel like snorkelling rather than swimming this morning. Fingers crossed we have a few more mornings like this.
Little Sarah – well done on joining the not-so-slowies for their 6:15 Bolderdash this morning. Conditions looked perfect.
Big swell forecast for Saturday. Good enough excuse for me drop the 10k plans as I’m not much of a Harbour swimmer either. Snorks and I will work on a quality Saturday blog instead.

Cannot confirm at this stage Lucy. The first preference is always the ocean swim, with the course up to S Curl Curl and return.
It depends on the conditions on the day. The harbour is always a second option if the conditions ocean side are bad or blueys etc,as happened on the last 10k swim.

Hi Stephen – How did your Wobbegong video go?

    Coincidence? I think not……
    Great blog Mary.
Lips best bomb I’ve ever seen.
Lesley I’m surprised you let hubby do the nude mile with such beautiful women! You must be very trusting.

Mary thanks for the blog some great images and intellectually stimulating prose.
A great 6.15 bolderdish this morning with calm seas and no blueys.
Tomorrow LSA is hosting another 6.15 balderdash for those that like the later and lighter start.
DWSS has committed to swim and call the dogfish, Nurse J, Brenton, Anna A and I have also committed.
    The more the merrier!

Thanks, Storchy, for keeping me company for a lovely “bolderdish”. So lovely to arrive and find a pink cap nest waiting for us…..
    See you all tomorrow!
Where’s the video of Shauny Boy doing his dolphin chatter which I beautifully bombed?

Thx Lips, missed you, but looks like you were having fun anyway!
All thanks to Storchy who paced me for each stroke of the way and to Shauny Boy who did some emergency surgery on my goggles which broke in the first two minutes of the swim.
I’m working on Storchy and a couple of others to keep me company for the 10k just in case Jon & you continue to find all kinds of excuses and other commitments.
Storchy, Lips, Nick, John 007 and all – in case it’s the harbour (looking more and more likely), can we work out a 4 beaches 10K distance, so we all know the route in advance? I think for most people this would be more appealing than repeat visits to the Toilet Rolls (with lots of tea-break and cheer squad options:-))

Wonderful blog Mary and thanks for my mentions. Iain L, Robbie, John H,Retha, Sarah E and Matt also did The Long Course much quicker than me and Wilf, Emer, Ted and a few others did the Sprint. It is a great event. I’m sure we’ll have more B&Bers down there next year.
I’d love to do a 10km but have CanToo Half Marathon training on Saturday (still places if anyone wants to register.) I’m sure Jules wouldn’t mind if a few of us did an official one on Sunday if we can’t make Saturday.Patrick is keen, anyone else? Lips?
