19/01/14 Swimming back to front

19/01/201414

Morning Manly.

Turning up this morning, you will have noticed that the waves had settled somewhat. Yippee!

The tables were set up in a different spot this morning and swimmers and morning joggers were mixing well along the footpath. Plenty of room for all.

An early morning stretch is always advisable.

The paparazzi were gathered and taking photos …..for a moment we all thought it was someone interesting…..
A B&B’er was posing unashamedly at the waters edge….’Who could it be?’

On closer inspection, we noticed it was only Nick and continued with more important matters like …..swimming.

Swimmers were excited to be going in from the beach again BUT after a word with the surf club and so not to get tangled in with the nippers, JK gathered us and explained our alternative course.

A whopping forty new people joined us today. Welcome. These cheeky four love swimming!

A colourful trio, puts my all black rashie to shame!

JK said we would “Start at Shelly beach, swim to The Point, then back to Shelly”. So 256 swimmers gathered their bags, caps, thongs, towels, goggles, dogs, children and headed off to our alternative start point.

Round towards the point, the line started off ….

Round the corner, they kept coming……

As far as the eye could see ….a whole procession of those swimmers in the pink caps.

….and they kept coming…..

And more…..

….still heading ….

At Half Way the crowd split a little. Some decided on a ‘Half way to Shelly, to the point and Shelly’. Some decided on a ‘Half way to the point, then to Shelly, then half way’ and so on!

Ian even looked a little lost.

Swimmers braved the small surf at Half Way.

Waiting for a break in the set.

Then we arrived at our Half Way point, The Point (yes I was confused to) and bobbed and waited for all to join us.

A great exercise in working out who knows where The Point is.

JK reminding everyone.

In this photo ….I can’t see the surf club, which means I’m not at The Point!

Murky waters gave me only this underwater shot today.

Heading back to Shelly, or Half Way, or Shelly then Half Way or whatever! Options a plenty!

Photos at Shelly look a little lost today….as these were taken at the end of the swim.

We took advantage of the different showers though!

Heading back to Manly. An upside down swim at its best.

Picked up some swimmers getting out at Half Way.

Even a different pup hangs out at a different spot.

The one piece that remains the same is the post swim catch up with friends and a great coffee.

Lost and found: these keys were found at Shelly beach. If they are yours please leave a comment on the blog or see Ian Forster at any swim.

B&B Attendance Login

Come on folks – this is the most efficient way to capture your swims. It’s a smart phone friendly website so no need to download, just mark it as a bookmark. There are so many good reasons to use the B&B Login – like no queues, no need for glasses to find your name, and never missing the 7am call.
Log your swim between 5am and 9am for the easy way to ensure your swim is recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge. To get started, send an email to Ian Forster (ugoboyo@gmail.com). He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to get started. Happy clicking.

Summer badge swims

Every Saturday during summer there will be a 6km swim – usual route is to Freshwater and back; then once a month there is a 10km swim – this is to South Curl Curl and back. However, the final route depends on conditions that day so it is a good idea to arrive a little early to have a briefing from the designated swim leader. Both swims kick off at 7am.

I really like the 2 photos that both have 2 swimmers on them going in half way! I thought the water was pretty cold today. Looking forward to some clearer waters.

Great stuff Snorkles – I was thoroughly confused by today’s upside down swim and will need the rest of the day to recover.
