18/2/13 – Brought to you by English Beer

18/02/201329

Well normally Monday is not a swimming day for me..  but after this morning I’ve definitely changed my mind! Just look at this….

Photobomb of the week goes to Mike Baird who appeared out of nowhere and then was gone just as quick..

This is definitely the way to start the week..

There was a lot of two way traffic with people coming in as well as going out..

John K was smiling because the water was just like swimming in English beer…. warm and flat! (Don’t get homesick mate… at least we don’t have to stay up and watch the FA Cup now…)

Here’s a pic of Steve Coutler with his gear on for a change…. thankfully because it was very clear again…. We saw a large pod of dolphins flirting with the southern end of Manly ths morning but not quite coming in to the cove, and not quite close enough for a photo opportunity…

Snorkels are in this year…

Beautiful swim over …watch out for the boat which is still there… Krystyna getting in a lot of pics this morning…

Still multitudes of fish on the way back! Some great pics from Stephen, and some more yellowtail with a pinkish sun tinge.. (natural!)

First dusky shot in a little while..

Shaun swam the Dash this morning and actually spoke to the dolphins.. one of them asked him how to get to the tourist information centre and wanted a recommendation for a good backpackers hostel. Shaun said “don’t you know who I am?” …anyway.. it turns out he’s got three or four of them now dossing on his couch and spare room. Careful Shaun.. once they’re in mate it’s very hard to move them on…

“They were all over me” he says here…”first the girl dolphins chatted me up, and as soon as I said they could crash on the lounge for a couple of weeks, they’re boyfriend dolphins came straight over and started asking for the keys…seriously… I don’t know if I want to be the Dolphin Whisperer anymore…they’ve eaten all my anchovies already!”

Great pic of you Alyson and even allowing for a few wild exagerrations, does sound like Shaun and John got a great dolphin prize this morning whilst the early bolderdashers got the worst bluebottle booby prize.
    It’s all about the timing!

    My entry for caption competition:
“Okay, I admit it Snorkles. Rainer was right. There’s no such a thing as the ‘Sydney Skinny’. I made it up. And I dont think anyone else will join us. Sorry. But if it makes you more comfortable, I can get naked too..”

    To All the B&B’ers:
It’s Brent here, the American who spent the winter in AUS. Thanks for this blog! I love the photos and the obvious warmth you all have. The water in San Francisco Bay right now is 10 degrees Centigrade. Looking forward to seeing you all again in May.
    Cheers!

So Brent the professor (I remember you well – you owe me a coffee)
    😉
You moving over here this time permanently or going to stay long enough to develop a broad Aussie accent?
10 degrees centigrade is just one more reason to leave USA for good.
You will have missed all the 6 and 10 kms swims. Perhaps Mr John 007 will organise a mid winter 6/10 swim.
Look forward to having a coffee with you.

WOW, what a weekend for the B&B. Congratulations to the Husky participants & Skinny swimmers.
Just back from the Kangaroo Valley Show. A fierce competition. Particularly competitive in the photography, cardmaking, embroidery, jewellery, painting sections. And a super competitive field took part in the ‘Egg Carton Creature’ section. B&B put up a wonderful selection of crafts etc. Congratulations to Nicolee’s mum on winning 1st prize for her baby booties. Annette & I also picked up a couple of prizes.
    Things I learnt from this years show;
1 – make sure your cake is fully cooked before you enter the cake section. OOPS!!
2 – biscuits should be small & dainty.
    3 – Midge’s granddaughter is a very creative 6yr old.
Can’t wait to get back in the water.

    Haha Krystyna
Yes, it WAS an incredible swim this morning.
On first site, I thought they were sharks attacking each other, then I saw they were dolphins and then noticed they were definitely doing the wild thing. And only 3 m away!!!
My next thought was – I hope they only like their own kind!!!!
They swam VERY differently, stopping at the top, heads out of the water, Tail up for a second, very different!!!!
They drifted off a little north and I decided they needed some privacy and chose not to keep up with them. I looked up and saw a fin 30m away coming at me so I swam towards it (Hoping it was not a shark) Then two swam below me, joined the others and I had about eight around me. It was awesome.
Tried making the same squealing sounds but then I thought I better stop in case I was talking the language of “Dolphin Love”

Would love to John. The Bolderdish – is this something the Naked Chef would serve up?
Participants of the Sydney Skinny said in interviews after the swim that it helped them lose some of their inhibitions. I thought to myself – how lucky am I, I don’t even have any inhibitions to lose.
Great blog, Crikey Nick! Thanks for the laughs.
