18/08/13 Anyone for a snorkel?

18/08/201310

New cover shot perhaps? It definitely wasn’t a bummer of a day today, but a gorgeous, flat calm one on Lake Manly! LOOK!!!17.2 water temperature, balmy!

Another glorious day on Lake Manly with 172 of us heading out in the beautiful weather
to keep us nice and awake, oh and I’m back! A big thank you to Stephen and Nick today
for the photos, whilst my camera is with the camera gods waiting to be fixed!

So, today we celebrate those who have a different view for most of their swim and get to see a lot more of our fishie friends, than most. Here’s one of them prepping to get in the ocean. Today, we celebrate The Snorkel!

Oh..and today, Jenny K shows us (underwater) where The Point is, good work Jenny, pointing at The Point. If you are ever confused as to where The Point is, then look for Jenny she may be lurking below you pointing it out!

Snorkels en masse, great group shots ladies!!!

See how synchronised they are!

Lisa swan diving with her snorkel.

“This way” she says …..”Off to Shelly”

Suddenly everyone wants an underwater shot …check out how clear it is today!

More from the snorkellers

..and stretching ….

Snorkellers love clean, clear water it means we can find Shelly beach no problem!

Brendan with his uber snorkel, front shot …

….and side view….

Soon its time for “Let’s go” and final adjustments are made.

..and off we go, head down, fins up!

And a selection of what our snorkellers get to see every day!

On this day in history ….

At midnight on 18 August 1958, Brojen Das from Bangladesh
started his swim across the English channel. He was the first Asian to swim the
distance and the first person to cross it four times.

The Beatles knew a thing or two about the water, their Yellow Submarine was at Number 1 in the charts on this day in 1966.

We have some amazing people in the B&B, but did you know
last year on 18 August….French swimmer Philippe Croizon completed a
swim to link five continents using custom made flippers?!?! The swimmer who
lost all his limbs in an electrocution accident hoped his accomplishments would
inspire other disabled people.

A sardine was swimming along with his mother and they came across a submarine. “What’s that, Mum?” said the little sardine. “Why, that’s a tin with people in it, dear!”

Just thought I might post this story of my Hobart granddaughter Rose who is 10 years old and has just swum 10km to raise money for breast cancer research. So far she has raised over $1000 with more to come. This has certainly inspired me to go for my 10km badge this Summer and I hope it will do the same for lots of us.
Here is Rose with her brother Sam after the swim (over 5 hours with a 10-minute lunch break).
