18/07/2012 – Red Nose Day!

18/07/201215

99 Bold and Beautiful Swimmers

Cloudy and “grey” but it makes no difference – It’s always great out there in the ocean!

And 16.8 degrees in the water and about 9 out of the water – so the water is THE best place to be in Winter!

It really is a….

Everyone arriving!

Wetsuits galore….some needing a helping hand…

Quick catch up! Ian in black…. He found his pink budgies after the swim..back in the changing room!!

The walk in….

Er..cough cough – waiting at The Point?

We’ve got it wrong – the Jimbles are more afraid of us! Although we all pretty much got a sting or 2 – some on the NOSE!

Waiting at Shelly…

TUCK TUCK TUCK…

There are all sorts of techniques for avoiding Jimbles…and what’s this?? Wimping out perhaps?? Or late for work?

Clearly I have no French blood at all in me! I also saw all 3 Cuttle Fish together but as I got my camera ready they took off and hid!!

Nice little wave coming in…and welcome bottle of hot water at the end!!!

We had double the number of swimmers compared to same time last year..Which is fantastic considering it’s even colder!!

More and more people know how great it is!

See you all tomorow! 🙂

According to MSW it will be another great day tomorrow AND it will be sunny!!
Best news of all: All the jimbles have gone!! We could see them heading around north head about 11am.
AND it will be 20 degrees in the water!
    Looking great isn’t it?

Loving my new B&B hoodie! Thanks Jules for bringing it down so speedily ….only 5 more swims before it gets adorned with its first badge!
Be sure to see it down at the beach with of course the obligatory pink accessories soon!

Wow Jules, I hardly ever spot the cuttlefish! and you seem to manage seeing them all the time: you are the cuttle-whisperer!
    Great pictures today as usual!
There is a lot of whale activity, I suspect Southern rights. i spied one with what may have been a calf off curlcurl/deewhy headland, also lots of plumes out to sea. Keep your eyes open, all! the lovely friends are all around us!

The OzMus folk really liked the mating PJ photos. Apparently the smaller one is the male and he fastens his jaws hard onto the female’s pectoral fin so she can’t get away. Apparently “No” doesn’t mean “No” with sharks. But don’t you love the blissful expression on the face of the female in the B&B pic no. 4?
AND Mark at the Museum is going to use clips from Gaetan’s latest video on his Fishes website. AND Francois’s cuttlefish vid will appear on the Marine Invert. website. Wow, what a lot of reflected glory to bask in!

the wetsuits are not for protection from the water temperature, they are to block the jimble stings…wouldn’t be there without one.

I think your cuttlefish’s language would be a bit “blue” for the Ozmus.
