My usual vigil to the east before the swim was even more fortifying than normal this morning after I had to brave the path in bare feet as I could’nt find my uggs. The Westerlies as you may be aware create the cold conditions as they move the surface water offshore and it has to be replaced with colder deeper water. We have had a few weeks now of intermittent Westerlies. 2-3 foot ESE remnants of the last swell will fall away till Saturday with Westerlies the whole week so dont forget your Uggs.

Puffy jackets were the order of the day and Uggs if you have them. The board shows 15.5. I would wager I felt he edges of 14 particularly at Shelly.

There was more than a modicum of rubber this morning as the theory that the cold was all in your head needed more clarification and scientific proof.

However, for those who proposed the theory, there was no backing down.

And at the point, a pretty big Trygonoptera testacea or common Stingray was waiting at the ledge for a meal.

The Sun did little to take the edge off as we moved into Shelly.

Shelly was not for the faint-hearted this morning. It felt 2 degrees colder.

It was in and off for most.

And this one is for mate of mine Guy Buckeridge, who is the number one fan of Platycephalus fuscus or the Dusky Flathead. I think Penny may be a close second.
And this guy (mosaicus I think) on the way out of Shelly caused a bit of a commotion.

As we got back in the sun, the temps warmed and all was well with the world at least in our corner.

And now for the sprint to some warmth.

And for some(Shane) still warming up, the bracing experience was still to come.

have a great week people.
Brian

Stats: Winter Badge The Winter swimming season is finally here! Although the water temperature may be a little colder than you might like, there are several advantages of swimming in winter, including flat seas, good visibility and no bluebottles. Perhaps the biggest advantage is that you can also qualify for a winter badge by swimming a minimum of 20 times between 1st June and 31st August. You must also swim in at least 7 different weeks. If you manage to do all of your qualifying swims without a wetsuit (or other thermal enhancing equipment), you will also qualify for the coveted WWW badge (Winter without wetsuit). So start now, and don’t forget to log your swims to qualify.

Amazing pics….. It really is stunning in the early early morning as shown in first pic.
Love my early swims with the pink and red sky about 45 mins before sunrise being the best time, though it is lovely to have some warmth from the sun later!
Love this other Dry sunny July!
