17/08/14 Arrh here’s the August we know and love

17/08/201412

Last week I was swimming and diving in 29c water, this week ……hmmm?!

Where is everyone on this cold, wet, wave-y day?

Phew, here’s one swimmer arriving, fighting with his umbrella (thanks to Nick D for today’s headline).

Even the dogs have their coats on today.

Arhhhh, there you all are ‘hiding’ under the only cover you can find.

The A team arriving …..a few drops of the wet stuff wouldn’t keep these boys away from their favourite sport.

Gareth still has a number of swims to go to reach his 20, for WWW, but at least he isn’t getting wet beforehand.

Another person, concerned about getting wet, before getting wet?!?

True to form though, those that have turned up are very happy to be here.

Smiles all around from the small group.

And then there’s the fashion police….

Storchy’s face says it all. “Did we forget to put ‘something’ on?”

Word was out. The Bold & Beautiful crew would be swimming today. So the surf crew prepared.

Hmm, those waves look BIG, best to be VERY prepared.

Are six enough?

General consensus was that the Half Way option would be a wise swim today. Slow Ian, led the charge.

Huge crowds tried the madder option (for this read about four people walked in at South Steyne).

The rest took the steps.

The inclusive group waited at the newly appointed ‘The Point’.

At Shelly, some clothed people turned up with a ‘small’ sign.

All for this lovely lady!

Yep, continuing the August Festival of The Birthdays, it’s our favourite Elaine’s today!

Happy Birthday Elaine! From all the swimmers that turned up today!

Of course, the birthday gal got to call the “let’s go”

….and we did…we’re off to the pub!

Drinks at Manly Skiff Club Sunday from 2pm today!!

A lot of our swimmers share the same star sign. To celebrate their birthdays, join us for a drink for a very informal drinks and catch up!

Lost! And now found!

Found near the cars, 2 x warringah aquatic centre passes with the names ‘Anna’ and ‘Squad Hols’ see Ian after a swim if it’s yours.

Winter Badge season – not long to go.

There are 14 weeks in the winter season. To qualify for the prized Cold & Bold Badge you simply need to swim 20 times within the season ensuring you have swum in aminimum of 7 different weeks. So, attempting to do it all in the first few weeks does not count!! Make sure you use the i-Log to register your without wetsuit for the WWW badge. The badge ceremony is being held straight after the swim on 21 September at the Royal Far West.

B&B i-Log

Log your swim ANYTIME of day using the B&B i-Log. This is the best and easiest way to ensure your swims are recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge. To get started, send an email to Ian Forster ugoboyo@gmail.com (This is not a link so please copy and paste into your email). He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to set up your log in.

Staying safe

Are you prepared for the return of the surf? Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.

Lovely blog Snorkles capturing the friendly, intimate group swim today! It brought a great lump to my throat seeing Leisa and John with that sign at Shelly. Felt very special. And thank you to a few swimmers I know would have preferred to be under their doona than swim today and came along especially. What an amazing group of people you are! The water actually felt great today and although murky at halfway was clear at Shelly. Hope to see you at drinks at the Skiff Club later!

Many happy returns to you Elaine! A memorable swim day for a fabulous swimmer/blogger/runner/ all-round lovely person. Thank goodness it was so murky and brown at halfway so I could not see the bluebottle or I would have missed a great swim. The Swimmers entered at the beach are truly a marvel! Congratulations to Nick and Craig on getting their 2 badges today – www and cold bold. And a bonus of joining in singing for Elaine’s birthday. A fabulous blog and sign off photo,

Had I known this before, I would have crawled out of my bed at 6am, regardless of weather, to not miss the celebrations at Shelly. A big hug and Happy Birthday Elaine. Have a wonderful day.

Fi-fi: I understand you rescued my flippers, caps and goggles from the change room on Saturday morning. Thank you so much! I’ll be down for a swim on Tuesday morning and would be most appreciative if you could bring them or just leave them on one of the tables for me. Cheers… Anne E
    PS Happy Birthday, Elaine!
