17/06/2014 – A golden Winter’s morning

17/06/201417

First up let me share with you today’s stunning golden sunrise.

With only four days to the winter solstice, I did think that these guys were doing a countdown!  Turns out it is their prediction for scores in the World Cup.  With the number of nations represented in the B&B we could almost hold our own World Cup.

The golden light bathed us as we made our way into a very low tide.

The temp – so important to know at this time of year – is a cool 18.4 degrees.  Not too painful for those of us doing the WWW.  Some are doing it just for the challenge, and others to raise funds for the Shepherd Centre. If you would like to encourage this madness, and it is tax deductible, then follow the link WWW for the Shepherd Centre.

A fast turnaround at Shelly – or maybe as I forgot my goggles I was just very late!!  Everyone did seem very delighted as Lyndall gave the ‘Let’s Go’, ‘cause they were off like startled rabbits.

Mind you there are always a few hanging about just in case the blog camera spies them. . .

There was a long debate about how to describe the visibility today.  It is kind of clear – you can see the fish, but it is very opaque.  Here is a shadowy Dusky just off Shelly.

The aquarium is still very active.

The most active feeding is going around the cafés.  Dave enjoys the heater and the froth at Manly Wine.

Dr John is looking for some support on Saturday.  Apparently they need a couple of paddlers to accompany them on the 14km journey from Manly to Bondi.  Leave a note on the blog if you are able to help out.

And good old Bluewater still offers sun, heaters and a lovely warm breakfast around a cosy bench.

See you tomorrow.

Mary

“Have counted the tin contents: total of $222  ($222.70 to be exact).  Great amount, and thanks so much.”

Week 4 of the Winter Badge season.

There are 14 weeks in the winter season.  To qualify for the prized Cold & Bold Badge you simply need to swim 20 times within the season ensuring you have swum in a minimum of 7 different weeks.  So, attempting to do it all in the first few weeks does not count!!  Make sure you use the i-Log to register your without wetsuit for the WWW badge.

B&B i-Log

The B&B i-Log is the best way to capture your swims!!  Log your swim ANYTIME of day using this really efficient and easy way to ensure your swim is recorded in the daily attendance and on the Pacific Challenge.. To get started, send an email to Ian Forster ugoboyo@gmail.com (This is not a link so please copy and paste into your email). He will check that your email address is activated on the attendance register then send you info on how to get started.

Staying safe

There may not be any waves just at the moment, but are you prepared for their return? Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly!  While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits.  Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf.  To read, or even download, click here.

    …3rd point
You just swim without a wetsuit because it’s completely natural!

Beaut morning….. great pics, Mary! (Though not sure about the ‘white blob’ in the last one:-))
After being out of action for so long, not sure I could make it back from Shelly on my own, so thanks to Sky for the pacing. I’ll be looking for a volunteer every day at Shelly for this great charitable cause:-)

Lesbubbles, I just checked the stats and you have completed only 2 winter swims this year so far. Both in wetsuits.

LSA – that pic of you is even stranger than yesterday’s! I didn’t notice the white blob when I was sitting with you this morning – maybe you put a jinx on cameras?

Sorry I missed the sighting of the very rare major storchi. . . I hear they are usually only in Shelly during the breeding season.
